The Boston bombing suspect reportedly had quite the hold on his wife Katherine Russell. According to a new report, Katherine felt like she couldn’t leave the relationship. Read on for all the details!
Katherine Russell claims that she had no idea her husband Tamerlan Tsarnaev was planning to set off bombs at the Boston Marathon on April 15, but according to a new report, her relationship with the suspect was anything but pleasant.
Katherine Russell Was Trapped In Relationship
When Tamerlan met Katherine, she was “interested in clothes and movies, just your average American girl,” a source who knows her tells People magazine. Tamerlan and Katherine married in 2010 and had a daughter, Zahara. That’s when people started to notice that Katie changed. “She became withdrawn. [Tamerlan] was not patient or kind. It was definitely his way or the highway. Even if Katie wanted to leave, I don’t know how she would have. The Katie I know would never have sat by and allowed people to get hurt.”
Unfortunately, it’s also been reported that Tamerlan would physically and verbally abuse Katherine. Tamerlan allegedly threw into fits of rage against his wife. He would reportedly throw things at her often, including pieces of furniture.
A neighbor of Katherine and Tamerlan's told Reuters that she often heard the couple screaming at each other in the wee hours of the night. "It wasn't enough to call the police," Mary Silberman said. "It didn't sound like anyone was in physical danger." But it was certainly enough to keep her awake.
Furthermore, in July 2009, Tamerlan was reportedly arrested for slapping an ex-girlfriend, according to court records. Tsarnaev stated at the time, "Yes, I slapped her." He said that he struck the left side of her face.

"The injuries and loss of life – to people who came to celebrate a race and a holiday – has caused profound distress and sorrow to Katie and her family. The reports of involvement by her husband and brother-in-law came as an absolute shock to them all. As a mother, a sister, a daughter, a wife, Katie deeply mourns the pain and loss to innocent victims – students, law enforcement, families and our community. In the aftermath of this tragedy, she, her daughter and her family are trying to come to terms with these events. Thank you."
