The usual small-screen suspects — Showtime’s Homeland, ABC’s Modern Family, CBS’ The Amazing Race — came away winners at the Producers Guild Awards on Saturday night, in the Outstanding Drama, Comedy and Competition categories, respectively.

Also earning kudos this year were HBO’s Game Change (in the Long-Form Television race), PBS’ American Masters (Non-Fiction), Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report (Live Entertainment/Talk), HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel (Sports) and PBS’ Sesame Street (Children’s Programming).

Also on the TV front, J.J. Abrams was this year’s recipient of the Norman Lear Achievement Award, for producing “some of the most iconic and highest-rated television shows of the past decade and longer, series that have changed the landscape of television.” Our sister site Deadline reports that after being presented with the award by his Alias lead Jennifer Garner, Abrams quipped, “Typical week!” — alluding to his grabbing of headlines as the director of the seventh Star Wars film.
