Floyd Mayweather Jr. Wins First Match Since Leaving Jail May 5th 2013, 05:12 The bright lights of Las Vegas were shining on Floyd and his opponent Robert Guerrero as they went fist for fist for the welterweight title. A title fight in boxing is huge. A title fight featuring Floyd Mayweather Jr., the highest paid boxer in the sport, is even bigger. But the first title fight since Floyd was released from jail? Now that’s enormous. The 36-year-old boxer flashed back on the scene on May 4, defeating Robert Guerrero in 12 rounds to claim the title belt. Floyd Mayweather Jr. Defeats Robert Guerrero The MGM Grand Hotel was more alive than ever as the two welterweight boxers went head to head. There was definitely no love lost between the two, as they were throwing punches viciously. In the end though, the frenzied match came down to who wanted it more — and that was Floyd Mayweather Jr. Floyd Mayweather Jr. Vs. Robert Guerrero: A Fight For The Ages This welterweight title fight may have been the most hyped ever. Floyd first of all, was going into the ring trying to shake off his sordid past. He hadn’t fought in over a year after serving jail time for assaulting the mother of his children. He was still his confrontational self before the fight though, calling out Robert and saying he was hypocrite for calling himself a devout Christian and then being arrested for gun charges. Both boxers seemed to get a kick out of mocking each other’s jail sentences. It was also an emotional fight for Robert, whose wife just overcame cancer. He was likely enraged even more when Floyd went on the record saying that the cancer story was just a ploy for sympathy. “I’m glad she was able to beat leukemia, which is a great thing,” he told Yahoo!. “But they keep selling the same story. Tons of celebs donned their finest outfits for the 139th running of the Kentucky Derby. Click to see them all! There’s only one day a year where you’re allowed to wear a hat that weighs more than your head — Derby Day. The 139th running of the Kentucky Derby fell on May 4, and like always, celebs came out to partake in the festivities. And their outfits did not disappoint. 2013 Kentucky Derby: Celebs Break Out The Hats Lauren Conrad was a picture of Kentucky constraint, as she wore a beautiful tan dress and a surprisingly dainty matching hat. The Medicine Woman, Jane Seymour, went for a louder look — she was stunning in a bright red dress and a truly gorgeous hat. Singer Miranda Lambert brought country to Churchill Downs in her elegant — almost Victorian — dress. She topped (literally) the outfit off with a great, off-kilter hat. Fashion model Coco Rocha was a sight to see in a blush pink two-piece outfit by Zac Posen. Her hat, by Philip Treacy, took full advantage of flowers to make a complexly stunning piece of art. Krysten Ritter meanwhile looked like a Monet painting in her impressionistic floral dress with a matching, wide-brimmed hat. Don’t think we forgot about the Derby hunks, though! Arrow’s Stephen Amell kept things simple in a well-fitting double-breasted suit matched with a smart tie. Anthony Anderson got into the mood a bit more, wearing a sky blue suit over a pink gingham shirt and donning and old-timey hat perfect for Derby Day. American Pie actor Jason Biggs gussied himself up for the event, showing off in an orange patterned jacket with a tan fedora. Orb Wins The 2013 Kentucky Derby May 4th 2013, 22:38 The 139th running of the Kentucky Derby on May 4 definitely did not disappoint. Orb took the title in a thrilling race. Did you pick the right horse? They don’t call it “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports” for nothing! The race on May 4 once again proved yet again why the Kentucky Derby is such an event, and why we all love to huddle around TVs for hours and get gussied up for only a couple minutes of action. It’s all so worth it! Orb: Kentucky Derby Winner 2013 It rained for most of the day on May 4, creating a mucky, muddy track for the horses. But there was one who ran through the muck the best — Orb. It was a close and exhilarating race, but Orb managed to pull away at the end. The 139th annual Kentucky Derby had some extremely intriguing storylines going into the race. Orb was made the odds-on favorite heading into the race and had won four straight races going in. Other well-favored horses like Verrazano and Revolutionary were chomping at the bit to win the derby, but they ended up falling short as well. 139th Kentucky Derby Story Lines All eyes were definitely on Rick Pitino though, the coach of the NCAA basketball champion Louisville Cardinals. He has co-ownership of Goldencents and was definitely trying to win his second championship of the year. A day before the race, Goldencent’s trainer, Doug O’Neill, was very confident. “It should be perfect,” he said. And our favorite Cajun jockey, Calvin Borel was at it again on May 4. He was riding the colt Revolutionary and looking for yet another win after having won the Kentucky Derby three times before. The caller, who appears to be Chris’ mother, speaks with the 911 dispatch and recounts how she has found her son lying down unresponsive and unconscious. After closer inspection, Chris’ mother informs the dispatcher that her son is not breathing. She also tells the dispatcher that her son had used cocaine and heroin the night before, and that he had “an extensive history of drug use.” Though Chris’ mom seems to be keeping her composure, there is a feeling of panic throughout the phone call, surely because she does not know what to do. ”I can’t feel anything,” the mother says when the dispatcher asks if she can feel Chris breathing. The 911 dispatcher instructs Chris’ mom on how to perform chest compressions while an EMT rushed to the scene. The call ends frantically and abruptly when those emergency responders arrive. Chris Kelly Dies At 34 From Possible Overdose As we know, despite Chris’ mother and the EMT’s efforts, Chris was pronounced dead at the Atlanta Medical Center at around 5:30 p.m. on May 1. It’s likely that the aforementioned combination of cocaine and heroin was a main factor in the rapper’s death. Clare Waismann, founder of WAISMANN METHOD — an opiate detoxification center, tells HollywoodLife.com that "individually they are both lethal drugs, but when they are combined, they become even more lethal… One day your body can handle all the drugs, and the next day it can’t.” Chris’ death is so sad — to die at the age of 34 after struggling through addiction is just awful, for him and his loved ones.
