The Brown family faces its biggest challenges yet in the emotion premiere of the fourth season!
The Browns are back and closer than ever! The fourth season of TLC’s Sister Wives, which kicked off July 21 at 9 p.m., sees the Brown family walking through their four adjacent homes — one for each wife — for the first time. Plus, Kody and the ladies attend an expo for the family business, which causes some tension between the sister wives. Read on for all the details!
‘Sister Wives’ Season Premiere Recap — The Family Plans To Move Into Adjacent Homes
In the season four premiere, the multi-part family — headed by husband Kody Brown and wives Meri, 42, Janelle, 44, Christine, 41, and Robyn – explore their future homes for the first time. After relocating from Utah to Las Vegas, the Browns have been living apart for almost two years, and they’re all thrilled at the possibility of living in side-by-side houses. Their goal is to move in by Christmas, and with 60 days on the clock, it seems like they might make it!
“We have to move next to each other,” Christine said. “That's our huge goal. We've been separate, so we know now that in order to make our family work, we want to get back together again.”
It will definitely be more convenient to borrow a cup of sugar.
The ‘Sister Wives’ Are At Odds Over The Family Business
In order to be able to afford four homes, Kody and his wives are going to have to kick their family business, “Sister Wife’s Closet” into high gear. Robyn is doggedly dedicated to making the jewelry business a success, with Meri as her supportive sidekick, but she isn’t getting much help from the rest of the family, who don’t seem to believe in the business at all.
Christine argues, "I'm giving my support if I come to the meetings. If I don’t groan during the meetings and roll my eyes and walk out early, that's good support.”
That’s good support? Christine would make a terrible cheerleader. And don’t even get us started on Kody!
“It is a challenge working with my wives,” he admits in his confessional. “Some days, I don’t want to work with them. I want to run away screaming. Kicking and screaming. Throwing my clothes off.”
Yikes. With that kind of attitude, it’s hard to imagine this business being successful — especially after the gang experiences a major setback at the What Women Want Expo in St. George, Utah.
The ‘Sister Wives’ Get Shunned In Utah
Kody and his wives travel to the women’s expo in St. George with high hopes of selling 100 pieces of jewelry, but they quickly realize the Mormon community is not interested in their jewelry –or their lifestyle.
St. George, a largely Mormon city, is also home to the headquarters of the FLDS, a controversial group of Mormon Fundamentalists who embrace polygamy and have been embroiled in scandals involving child marriages. Others who live in the community are not polygamy-friendly, and they gave Kody and the sister wives the cold shoulder and some very dirty looks.
Several people at the expo commented on camera that polygamy is morally wrong, with one woman saying it “is not a religion. It is a domineering, creepy way for old men to marry young women."
Robyn, who grew up in the area says, “Here in St. George, Utah, sister wife doesn’t mean your best buddy — it means, ‘Oh, you’re abused.’”
While the polygamy lifestyle is clearly not for everyone, it’s still hard to watch the sister wives — especially Robyn — fail so miserably after all the time and energy they put into the project. In the end they only sold 19 pieces, falling far short of their goal of 100.
Kody may not have been able to sell many necklaces, but he did take a stand for himself and his wives.
“I’m really tired of people trying to thump their bibles at me and say I’m wrong,” he said in the family confessional.
“I’m a little angry with those who are standing in judgement of me."
Janelle was really proud of Kody, and I must say I admire him for sticking to his guns.
Will Robyn Be Meri’s Surrogate?
Season three ended with the Meri still on the fence about Robyn’s offer to be a surrogate for her. Despite her difficulty conceiving and Kody’s desire for her to bear another child, Meri is still torn about what she should do. She tells Robyn, “I feel guilty if i decide not to take you up on the offer — it was just such a loving offer."
Robyn insists there’s no pressure, saying, "I just want you to have a choice.”
“I would be excited to have kids with you,” she tells Meri. “I would love to do that with a sister wife, especially you.”
It’s touching that Robyn wants to share such a powerful bond with Meri. The two have really connected through their passion for Sister Wife’s Closet and they would be even closer if they shared an actual child together. But if that does happen, it could cause a rift between the other sister wives.
Christine clearly felt left out at the expo, saying, “I see Meri and Robyn and I realize they have a really, really tight bond. I want that, but the amount of work that it takes to have a tight bond is something that’s really hard.”
It seems like there’s a lot in store for this season of “Sister Wives.” We can’t wait to see more!
