Season six really came to a head this week. (Seriously, though, stop reading if you don’t want to be spoiled.)
True Blood did a little house cleaning July 21, knocking off two relatively important, though very different, characters. We also got to see fairy-on-fairy sex for the first time, and it was even more sparkly than I could have ever imagined — not that I spent a lot of time imagining it. … Oh, boy.
Two Down
The Grim Reaper’s first visit was to Terry (Todd Lowe), who was glamoured into forgetting everything about the war — including that he’d paid someone to assassinate him. So Terry went night-night forever in the back parking lot at Merlotte’s, while Billith (Stephen Moyer) paid a little visit to Governor Burrell. And by “paid a little visit,” I mean he gave ol’ Truman the full decapitation treatment. It was a long time coming, and easily the season’s grisliest sight yet. I approve.
I’ve got to be honest, though: As sad as it was watching Arlene (Carrie Preston) literally sing Terry to death, I’ll be really disappointed if his was the big death we were promised. Michael McMillian – who made incredible use of his scarce scree time this week — told me that season six’s big death would “change the tone of the show,” and I just don’t think losing Terry could ever accomplish that.
In fact, I already forgot who Terry is. Who’s Terry?
Freaky Fairies
The July 21 episode also effectively ended Sookie’s (Anna Paquin) multi-season dry spell, as she finally gave her special womanly gift over to Warlow (Rob Kazinsky), who’s really just been begging for it all season. As a ‘thank you’ for saving her from Lafayette, Sookie transported him to the fairy world — which, apparently, she can do now — and tied up his hands all sexy-like behind a grave.
At that point, it was pretty obvious what was going to happen next. I mean, this was Sookie with an undead man in a graveyard; Charlaine Harris herself couldn’t have written a more perfect sex situation for the Sookie. But am I crazy, or did she bite a chunk out of Ben’s neck before she hitched a ride on the Fairy-Go-Round? That seemed like a weird thing Sookie to do, especially since Warlow had just told her he wants to make her a vampire.
(Dear, True Blood, please don’t turn Sookie into a vampire. You just… you can’t do it. Please and thank you.)
Eric’s Girl Problems
Meanwhile, at Vamp Camp, Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) and Pam (Kristen Bauer Van Straten) proved their undying loyalty to one another by turning their stakes on the guards. Come on, though, did you really think either one of them was going to kill the other? I’m just they had a chance to reconnect.
Sadly, Eric also reconnected Nora (Lucy Griffiths) — just in time to watch the LAVDF inject her with Hepatitis-V, a special strain of the virus that kills vampires. Summoning Willa (Amelia Rose Blaire) took care of the guards, but Eric has no way of saving Nora from the disease that’s not-so-slowly tearing her apart from the inside out.
Is another death just around the corner?
Odds & Ends
1. It sucks that Jason (Ryan Kwanten) was going to have to watch Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) with another vampire, but he couldn’t have gotten any luckier. James — aka Ryan from Brothers & Sisters – was a total gentlemen; so it’s a shame he’ll probably die for his good deed.
2. The scene where Andy (Chris Bauer) finally named his only remaining daughter was sweet, but that name he gave her was super long, and I already don’t remember any of it.
3. The wolves and the shifters and the girl with the big hair all probably did some stuff this week, but as you may know, I’ve taken a stand against all of them. Their scenes are basically excuses for pee breaks at this point.
HollywoodLifers, do you think there will be any repercussions from Sookie and Warlow having sex? Could Sookie really become a vampire? And what was your reaction to the two major deaths? Drop a comment with your review of the episode, and your predictions for the rest of the season.
