President Obama made a strong plea to protect the children of America with gun control reform during his State of the Union address on Feb. 12, while also pushing for a comprehensive immigration plan, a move to to enact measures to combat climate change, tax reform, and a raise of the minimum wage so working-class citizens don’t have to live in poverty.
President Barack Obama‘s State of the Union address on Feb. 12 was one of the most emotional ever, with the president making strong pleas on behalf the families of the Newtown tragedy, telling both chambers of Congress that they “deserve a vote” when it comes to proposed gun control reform!
When President Obama reached the portion of his speech that was dedicated to gun control reform, he said, “Of course, what I've said tonight matters little if we don't come together to protect our most precious resource – our children.”
He laid bare the proposals facing Congress in the wake of the horrific shooting: “It has been two months since Newtown. I know this is not the first time this country has debated how to reduce gun violence. But this time is different. Overwhelming majorities of Americans – Americans who believe in the 2nd Amendment – have come together around commonsense reform – like background checks that will make it harder for criminals to get their hands on a gun. Senators of both parties are working together on tough new laws to prevent anyone from buying guns for resale to criminals. Police chiefs are asking our help to get weapons of war and massive ammunition magazines off our streets, because they are tired of being outgunned.”
President Obama’s Emotional Gun Control Reform Plea
The President explained that, regardless of how each vote went, it mattered that a vote occurred at all. “Each of these proposals deserves a vote in Congress,” he said. “If you want to vote no, that's your choice. But these proposals deserve a vote. Because in the two months since Newtown, more than a thousand birthdays, graduations, and anniversaries have been stolen from our lives by a bullet from a gun.”
“Gabby Giffords deserves a vote. The families of Newtown deserve a vote. The families of Aurora deserve a vote. The families of Oak Creek, and Tucson, and Blacksburg, and the countless other communities ripped open by gun violence – they deserve a simple vote,” he said, pausing between each sentence for emotional resonance.
President Obama’s Other Proposals
But the President’s words weren’t centered squarely on gun control throughout the hour. He touched on other pressing matters, such as stronger measures to combat climate change, a comprehensive immigration plan, and a raise of the federal minimum wage to nine dollars an hour.
“Tonight, let's declare that in the wealthiest nation on Earth, no one who works full-time should have to live in poverty, and raise the federal minimum wage to $9.00 an hour. This single step would raise the incomes of millions of working families. It could mean the difference between groceries or the food bank; rent or eviction; scraping by or finally getting ahead,” he said.

More On President Obama’s State Of The Union Address:
The band majorette, 15, who was gunned down near her Chicago school just a week after performing at the Presidential Inauguration, was commemorated during the State of the Union speech — and her parents were seated up front next to the first lady. Read on for the emotional tribute.
Hadiya Pendelton, 15, performed with her high school band at the Presidential Inauguration on Jan. 21, and was tragically shot and killed a week later in a Chicago park, allegedly by two gang members. Her parents Cleopatra and NathanielPendleton attended the State of the Union Speech on Feb. 12, and sat beside First Lady Michelle Obama as President Barack Obama called for stricter gun laws.
President Obama gave a touching shout out to Hadiya, who was an honor student and band majorette for her high school. He remembered her for being “so good to her friends, they all thought they were her best friend,” he said during his speech.
When he mentioned her parents “Nate” and “Cleo,” he said they deserved a vote on Congress for gun control, as well as all of the families impacted by gun violence — including the families in Newtown, Conn., Gabby Giffords and the families in Aurora, Colo.
Barack Obama Calls For Gun Control During State Of The Union
During his State of the Union speech on Feb. 12, the president made a call to action for gun control to protect our children:
“Of course, what I've said tonight matters little if we don't come together to protect our most precious resource – our children,” he said in the speech.
“It has been two months since Newtown. Police chiefs are asking our help to get weapons of war and massive ammunition magazines off our streets, because they are tired of being outgunned.
Each of these proposals deserves a vote in Congress. If you want to vote no, that's your choice. But these proposals deserve a vote. Because in the two months since Newtown, more than a thousand birthdays, graduations, and anniversaries have been stolen from our lives by a bullet from a gun.
One of those we lost was a young girl named Hadiya Pendleton. She was 15 years old. She loved Fig Newtons and lip gloss. She was a majorette. She was so good to her friends, they all thought they were her best friend. Just three weeks ago, she was here, in Washington, with her classmates, performing for her country at my inauguration. And a week later, she was shot and killed in a Chicago park after school, just a mile away from my house.
Hadiya's parents, Nate and Cleo, are in this chamber tonight, along with more than two dozen Americans whose lives have been torn apart by gun violence. They deserve a vote.
Gabby Giffords deserves a vote. The families of Newtown deserve a vote. The families of Aurora deserve a vote.
The families of Oak Creek, and Tucson, and Blacksburg, and the countless other communities ripped open by gun violence – they deserve a simple vote.
Our actions will not prevent every senseless act of violence in this country. Indeed, no laws, no initiatives, no administrative acts will perfectly solve all the challenges I've outlined tonight. But we were never sent here to be perfect. We were sent here to make what difference we can, to secure this nation, expand opportunity, and uphold our ideals through the hard, often frustrating, but absolutely necessary work of self-government.”

With Laurel (Allie Gonino) finally in on the big secret, Emma (Alexandra Chando) and the boys plotted to expose Sutton and Rebecca (Charisma Carpenter) on the Feb. 12 episode of The Lying Game. Their plan went down at the flip-side formal, and just to make things extra complicated, Ethan (Blair Redford) took Emma as his date instead of Sutton! Let the madness begin.
Thayer (Christian Alexander) was able to stall Sutton by hijacking her limo, but apparently all those muscles are just for show, because she had him on the ground in no time — and not in a good way. Jordan (Ryan Rottman) also pulled some shenanigans of his own, taking Laurel to the formal as a “cover” for really wanting to be there with Mads (Alice Greczyn).
But the kids weren’t the only ones getting their drama on this week. While reminiscing about old times, Kristin (Helen Slater) and Alec (Adrian Pasdar) came this close to kissing on the mouth, while Rebecca and Ted (Andy Buckley) enjoyed a flirty little dance at the formal.
As for the ongoing murder investigation, a butt-load of money — $20,000 to be exact — was found at Derek’s house, leading the kiddies to suspect that Rebecca may have been paying him to keep quiet about something. But as soon as Emma found out the amount, she suddenly put all the pieces together: Kristin had said there was $20K missing from her bank account, which meant Derek had been blackmailing Ted, not Rebecca.
So if Emma’s logic is right — which, to be fair, it’s usually not — then Ted is actually the one who killed Derek! Emma celebrated her little victory by ripping Thayer’s clothes off and letting him to go town on her.
What did you think of this week’s episode? Do you believe Ted killed Derek? And did you get the uh-oh feeling when Mads and Ethan were chatting by the pool? Drop me a comment with your thoughts and theories!
An eyewitness at Mr. Chows in Beverly Hills tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY, “Katy couldn’t have looked happier. She was just beaming with a huge smile on her face. Katy, John Mayer and her parents seemed to be celebrating the night. They were laughing a lot and looked really at ease and comfortable with each other.”
“They all looked relaxed, especially Katy and John,” says the source. “They were holding hands and when they weren’t, John had his arm around Katy. Before they left, John leaned into Katy and gave her a kiss on the forehead — it was cute. And they make a gorgeous looking couple. They really compliment each other.”
Katy & John’s Pre-Grammy PDA
As HollywoodLife.com previously reported Katy and John were all over each other at Clive Davis‘ annual pre-Grammy party on Dec. 9 in Beverly Hills.
“John Mayer & Katy were involved in some major hand holding and rubbing of each others backs and arms throughout the night. They definitely stole some kisses from each other and acted like a very much in love couple all night,” said the source.
Katy & John Engaged?
With Katy wearing a ring on her wedding finger at The Grammy Awards, many were wondering if the singer is engaged. What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Should Katy and John take their relationship to the next level?
Michelle dressed in winter colors when she arrived at Congress for the speech, and she was greeted with polite applause when she entered the room. Rocking her blunt bangs, Michelle wore a high necked, A-line dress with a floral brooch, that had a black collar and glitzy maroon body.
Once again, Michelle wears the perfect outfit for the occasion! Twitter was awash with comments about her bare arms, and how fabulous her bangs are.
However, what was most noticeable about Michelle’s entrance was not what she was wearing, but who she greeted first. Michelle went to stand beside Cleopatra Pendleton and her husband Nathaniel, the parents of 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton, who was tragically shot and killed a week after performing at the Presidential Inauguration on Jan. 21. Michelle attended her funeral earlier this month.
The designer of Michelle’s dress is yet to be revealed, but we know that Michelle is a big fan of both Jason Wu and J Crew, so it could be one of their designs. Either way, she looks amazing!
What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Does Michelle look amazing? Do YOU like her dress?
Plus: Spencer completes her descent into madness, and yet another suspect emerges in Alison’s murder. Just another week in Rosewood!
After getting kicked off the academic decathlon team, Spencer (Troian Bellisario) went fifty shades of cray on the Feb. 12 episode of Pretty Little Liars — and just like the book, she had a parade of beefy dudes telling her what to do! First came hot-nerd Andrew (Brandon Jones), who is built like a blessed mountain, followed by Dr. Wren (Julian Morris), who prescribed her 50 cc’s of romantic dinner.
But Spencer’s insanity also manifested itself in less-sexy ways, like when she totally snapped and tried to kill Mona (Janel Parrish) in front of the entire decathlon team. Even with Andrew and Wren there to restrain her — don’t lie, you were jealous — the situation was less than ideal.
The ‘Wrong’ Fitz? Ain’t No Such Thing.
Meanwhile, Aria (Lucy Hale) was — as always — up to her pretty little neck in Fitz drama. CeCe (Vanessa Ray) basically tricked Aria and Wesley (Gregg Sulkin) into helping her take some pictures, and got exactly what she deserved when they accidentally spilled a bottle of red wine on her carpet.
Of course, that little mess quickly paled in comparison to the mess Aria found herself in when Wesley kissed her! Actually, that wasn’t enough exclamation points.
I’m starting to think it wasn’t such a good idea for Aria to let Wesley sleep at her house.
Oh, Spencer’s Half-Brother, Where Art Thou?
In other sexy-pairing news, Emily (Shay Mitchell) and Jason (Drew Van Acker) teamed up to find a collage Alison (Sasha Pieterse) had made for her dad. Not only did the photos reveal that Ali was with Detective Wilden (Bryce Johnson) at Cape May, but they had an unexpected friend by their side: CeCe!
Cue yet another delightful flashback to the night Ali was killed: Jason suddenly remembered seeing CeCe — who he thought was Ali — engaging in some shady talk with Melissa (Torrey DeVitto). Then, after a flash of lightning, they were gone! Dun, dun dun!
The fun continued when the elevator malfunctioned, sending Jason plummeting down the shaft (tee hee!) and straight into a hospital bed. The girls rallied around him for support, but the second they left his side, he straight-up vanished. And all this immediately after he accused “someone” being out to get the last remaining member of the “N.A.T.” club. Suspicious much?
Caleb Finally Has A Dad — A Really Shady Dad
Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) finally got used to the idea of having his dad in his life this week, but he might be changing his tune pretty soon. After a relaxing night at the Marin household, Hanna (Ashley Benson) noticed two dice scribbled on some money in Caleb’s dad’s wallet.
Is he not to be trusted? What’s the deal?
Since this week gave us a lot to chew on, I leave you with this incredibly delightful picture of hot-nerd Andrew. Let his mysteriously muscular nerd body calm your nerves, then drop a comment with your reaction to tonight’s many shirtless revelations:
The original hope was to take Chris alive, but after a war zone-like shootout, a standoff, and the fire, Chris is reported to be dead, though this hasn’t been confirmed. Neal Barton, the news director for a NBC affiliate in Texas, tweeted, “We have confirmation from the Los Angeles Police Department the ex-cop from LA was shot and killed by a local sheriff’s department sniper.” After multiple attempts to force the wanted man out of the cabin with tear gas and a flame filled engulfing of the cabin, the police have done everything in their power to make sure they got their man. And they it looks as if they have, as Chris Dorner is now reported deceased.
The Manhunt & Shootout Leading Up To Chris Dorner’s Death
Media helicopters were asked by authorities and the FAA to remove themselves from the area as they were in incredible danger. The ex-LAPD officer who is now believed dead was barricaded in a cabin for hours in Big Bear and he was heavily armed.
The week-long search for Christopher Dorner has had many people on edge. With a million dollar reward in the mix, even a Lowe’s was evacuated over someone thinking they saw Chris in the facility.
Throughout the day, there wasn’t concret confirmation that Chris was the person in the shootout, with the LAPD even saying, "Until we can confirm that he's either there or he's not there, this investigation has to stick with what we know and what we know is that we found evidence that he was there."
Chris was even spotted buying scuba equipment in Torrance, Calif., on Feb. 1, two days before he killed the police union rep's daughter Monica Quan and her fiance Keith Lawrence.
With this, it looks like the week-long nightmare has come to an end. Our thoughts remain with all the victims of this rampage, as well as their families and friends.

Adrienne used her money and power to bully Brandi, sources close to both ‘RHOBH’ stars reveal to HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. Read on for all the details!
Brandi Glanville is used to her mouth getting her in trouble on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, but this time she may have met her match. Sources close to the show say Adrienne Maloof scares Brandi and uses her power and money to bully her, HollywoodLife.com is EXCLUSIVELY reporting.
“Brandi was absolutely given a letter by Adrienne from her attorneys,” a source close to the situation tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY, referring to Brandi’s claims that Adrienne’s lawyers sent her a legal letter asking her to stop making false statements about Adrienne and her family.
Why Brandi Doesn’t Want A Legal Battle With Adrienne
“Brandi doesn’t lie and certainly doesn’t need to or even want to, for that matter, start a legal war with Adrienne. She can’t compete financially.
“Adrienne has an agenda and wants to shut Brandi’s mouth because of things Brandi may or may not know and that simply isn’t fair. Adrienne knows better but she’s a bully and there’s nothing you can do about that.”
Brandi And Adrienne’s Nasty Face Off
As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, the fire officially burned when Brandi faced-off with Adrienne at a tea party on the episode that aired Feb. 11.
Adrienne and Brandi were in a heated argument, and Brandi couldn’t believe Adrienne told the girls she never had her lawyers send Brandi a legal letter asking her to keep her mouth shut — a claim which Brandi vehemently stands by.
They went back and forth at each other and Brandi’s blood boils over saying, "are you joking?" Adrienne chimes back, "Shame on you."
Brandi couldn’t take what she claims are Adrienne’s lies, and gets up and leaves the tables but not before she quips at the Palms Resort and Casino owner and says, "Adrienne, you're full of fu**ing sh**."
Sound off HollywoodLifers. Do you think Adrienne is a bully?

Peter Sarsgaard (An Education, Kinsey) is set to tackle his first recurring TV role in AMC’s dark crime drama, playing Tom Seward, a death-row inmate for whom the clock is ticking down. Described as “a lifelong convict born into poverty and crime,” Sarsgaard’s character has “been in and out of the system for violent crimes since he was 10.” Determined to never be seen as weak, Seward approaches every interaction with the goal of dominating it.
