She sang the National Anthem at the Presidential Inauguration. She shot the lights out performing at the Super Bowl Halftime Show. Now she has a documentary. Beyonce bared her life, her soul, and her overall amazing-ness for all to see in ‘Life Is But A Dream!’
Considering how big Jay-Zand Beyonceare, there is not a more subdued, more private celebrity couple around. Remember how long it took for them to admit that they were dating!? That’s why Beyonce’s self-directed HBO documentary, Life Is But a Dream, is such a huge deal — it’s our first real all-access pass into the life of Beyonce Knowles.
Beyonce Opens Up About Her Dad
The movie begins very fittingly, with Queen B finally fully stepping out on her own.
Two years ago, Beyonce went through the hardest fight in her life — she decided to fire her father, Mathew Knowles, as her manager. He had held the position for pretty much Bey’s entire life.
“I felt like it was time for me to set up my future,” Beyonce says, “So I set up a goal, and my goal was independence.”
Besides needing to fend for herself, B also explains that she wanted to separate family from business for good: “At some point you need your support system — you need your daddy.”
And in a heartbreaking moment, Beyonce responds to the question of whether or not she got her dad back: “No — it was hard. I had to sacrifice my relationship with my dad.”
The Next Man In Beyonce’s Life: Jay-Z
“I love me some Jay-Z,” Beyonce announces to the audience at the 2011 Billboard Awards.
The movie showed us basically what we already knew — that Jay and Bey are the perfect couple. His love for his megastar wife and baby momma is basically oozing through his pores — he’s protective over her, he laughs with her, and he takes great pride in her. We saw all of that in the amazing photograph immediately after Beyonce’s halftime performance — that blissful embrace spoke volumes — but we could truly feel it in snippets throughout the documentary.
Umm, that footage of Jay and Bey singing “Yellow” by Coldplay to each other? The best thing I’ve ever seen.
Beyonce admits that Jay-Z perfectly allows her to be that fierce, independent woman while also being completely in love. “You’ve given me so much in life,” she tells Jay-Z in a sweet moment. “Every year I’m even more in love with you.”
Beyonce Overcomes A Tragic Blow
The sharper end of the all-access sword is having to hear tremendously sad stories. Beyonce’s dark hole after suffering a miscarriage is one of these hard-to-watch moments.
“Something happens when you hear the heartbeat,” Beyonce intimately tells the camera, “I picked out names. I was very maternal. My first child — with the man I love.”
And as she was feeling on top of the world, fate dealt her an awful hand. As she tragically but poetically puts it, “I flew back to New York to get my checkup and… no heartbeat.”
But Then There’s Blue Ivy
Seeing Beyonce light up feeling her baby kick inside her is a great moment — you can feel what she’s gone through and almost touch her newfound happiness. Now we know why that MTV VMAs moment was so triumphant!
We can admit why we were extra excited for Life Is But a Dream – to see Blue Ivy Carter! This is pretty much only the second time we’ve been allowed to see the heir to Watch the Throne, so the movie was really just a special opportunity for us to see the magic that is Blue Ivy.
And, sorry Bey, but that little girl looks just like her daddy.
It’s always nice to see huge stars — who usually seem so unaffected — so clearly obsessed and in love with something. That something for Beyonce is Blue Ivy. “It was the most beautiful experience in my life,” Beyonce says about giving birth.
That adorable little girl is Beyonce’s reason now — everything she does is devoted to her daughter, and that’s amazing and heartwarming.
From Destiny’s Child To ’4′
The first shot of Life Is But a Dream flashes from a precious home video of a toddler-aged Beyonce to a full-grown woman, performing “Crazy in Love” to tens of thousands of fans. And really, her rise to superstar status feels like it happened just as fast.
Thinking about the length of Beyonce’s career can make a Gen Y’er feel really old. I mean seriously — “Bills, Bills, Bills” came out in 1999. In the film, Beyonce seemed just as surprised about how long and fruitful and winding her career has been. But her self-confidence, fearlessness, and strength as an artist can’t be overstated.
From a young girl in Destiny’s Child, to a sexy solo “Crazy in Love” artist, to pretty much the end-all, be-all when it comes to female performers, Beyonce has powered through the harder times and has always looked amazing and humble doing it.
Beyonce is a mother, a daughter, a diva, a wife, a performer, a boss, a business, a champion for women, a visionary. Her life truly is a dream, and it’s one that we love following.

More On Beyonce’s HBO Documentary, ‘Life Is But A Dream’:
Oprah Winfrey provided a lead in to Beyonce’s HBO special with an interview on her ‘Oprah’s Next Chapter,’ where the pop star explored firing her manager father, her miscarriage, her marriage to Jay-Z and when she’ll get pregnant again.
Oprah Winfrey sat down with multiplatinum artist, 17-time Grammy winner and global superstar Beyoncé for an interview on Oprah’s Next Chapter. Her revelations, on the Feb. 16 special episode, were both riveting and charming — there’s a reason she’s referred to as Queen B.
Beyonce Talks About Jay-Z
“I would not be the woman I am if I did not go home to that man. And it just gives me such a foundation.” He’s helped her “on so many levels,” she says.
Beyonce notes, ”We were friends first for a year and a half before we went on any dates. We were on the phone for a year and a half, and that foundation is so important for a relationship. Just to have someone who you just like is so important, and someone [who] is honest.”
Oprah recalls, “I remember the first time you were on the Oprah show, I told you, ‘Don’t go around telling people who you’re dating.’ I think you took that all the way. Don’t tell people who you’re dating, but you can tell people who you’re married to, OK?”
As a dad, Jay-Z is “a different human being,” Beyonce says.
Beyonce Talks About Blue Ivy & Her Miscarriage
Beyonce was asked why she revealed her miscarriage in the documentary.
“I felt like there are so many couples that go through that and it was a big part of my story. It was one of the hardest things I’ve been through. It was one of the reasons I did not reveal that I was pregnant the second time. You don’t know what’s going to happen. It was hard,” Beyonce said.
Thankfully, Beyonce’s daughter came after — she was the positive light that shined after a dark time.
“She is hilarious and she is fire. Lord am I going to have me a time. She’s very smart. She’s doing flashcards. She’s beautiful,” Beyonce said.
So when will we see another baby? “I definitely want another child. After this next tour, maybe I’ll have another baby.”
“Talk some about letting your father go as your manager,” Oprah asks Beyonce.
Beyonce says, “It took a while for me and my dad to have an understanding. When I turned 18 and started handling my business more, he went into shock. And we had our issues. I’d say ‘No’ to something, and he’d book it anyway. Then I’d have to do it because I’d look bad [if I didn't]. We would fight sometimes, and it took about two years, to when I was 20, for him to realize, ‘Oh, she is an adult now, and if she doesn’t wanna do something, I can’t make her do it.’”
Beyonce’s mom, Tina Knowles, filed for divorce from Mathew Knowles on November 11, 2009, after several reports about Mathew’s affair with actress Alexsandra Wright had surfaced. Alexsandra has a son, Nixon, who was proven to be Mathew’s after a paternity test was issued.
Beyonce Loves Performing
No matter how many kids Beyonce ends up having, she’ll always hold performing dear to her heart. “I feel so fortunate to do my job. I love my job,” she gushed. “I love singing. I love the way it feels.”
Oprah’s interview served as a lead in to Beyonce’s documentary on HBO, Life Is But A Dream, airing at 9PM ET. Oprah calls the documentary “a game changer.”

Sexy and single Selena and ‘Spring Breakers’ co-stars Ashley Benson and Vanessa Hudgens are hitting the City of Lights to promote their new racy movie. But they had the day off on Feb. 16 and spent it taking glamorous shots from a rooftop with an incredible view!
Selena Gomezreally seems to be in a good place right now — regardless of whether she and Justin Bieber are done for good. She looks great AND happy, she has a movie coming out that should propel her acting career to the next level, and she has great friends to share all that joy with!
The ‘Spring Breakers’ Cast Explores Paris
The Spring Breakers trio of Selena, Ashley Benson, and Vanessa Hudgenstook advantage of their European promotion tour on Saturday, Feb. 16 to explore one of the most amazing cities in the world — Paris!
The girls turned their adventure into a photo shoot when they found themselves on a Parisian rooftop that overlooked the whole majestic city. Sending out a picture of the three of them in front of the amazing scenery, Ashley tweeted, “I’m in love with Paris.”
Selena tweeted two similar pictures, one with the caption, “Bonjour Paris. Spring Break is here ;)!”
In every pic, the trio look totally happy and not at all boy-crazy — sometimes girls just have to be with their friends!
‘Spring Breakers’ Will Push Selena & Co. Into New Territory
Spring Breakers, directed by Harmony Korine and also starring James Franco, is about a group of college-aged girls who rob a restaurant to get money for vacation and get arrested, only to get into MORE trouble when they’re bailed out of jail by a drug dealer (played by James Franco). The movie — rated R — promises to be sexy, violent, and a far cry from the wholesome beginnings of Selena, Ashley, and Vanessa.
After Spring Breakers, people might have a hard time remembering Selena’s Disney days!
Prince Harry is back to his wild ways! On Feb. 15, the sexy Brit cozied up to Ashley Roberts in a VIP area of Bodos Schloss, a new ski chalet-style restaurant, bar and dance club, according to a new report.
After a four-month tour of duty in Afghanistan, Prince Harry reportedly celebrated with reality stars and one hot member of the Pussycat Dolls on Feb. 15 in London.
“Harry was having a great time drinking with his friends,” a club source tells Us Weekly. “He had a good ol’ flirt with some cute girls, including Ashley Roberts from Pussycat Dolls, but it was just banter and he spent most the night with his friends, and [Princess Beatrice], in the VIP area.”
After his night out on the town, Harry went home in a cab and wrote notes to the taxi driver’s daughter and her friend, which they later posted on Twitter. ”Dear Mickie, your dad loves you . . . teach him to drive properly!” Harry told a teen named Mickie Jayne. He then wished her friend, Callie Connelly, a “happy b-day.”
You could have guessed this based upon his naked romp, but don’t expect Harry to settle down with a Pussycat Doll — or anyone for that matter — anytime soon. “If you find the right person and everything feels right, then it takes time — especially for myself and my brother,” Harry told the British press in January.
What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Should Prince Harry date a Pussycat Doll and see where it goes?
Fox’s Touch softened further in its second Season 2 outing, dropping 30 and 22 percent on Friday night to 2.53 million total viewers and a 0.7 rating (matching the series low set by that random Sept. 2012 leftover).
For those who want to go there, Fringe‘s series low, registered shortly before its grand finale, was 2.44 mil/0.8. But that’s just me being me; Fringe absolutely ended when it should have.
Of note: Friday TV usage as a whole, leading into the long holiday weekend, was down 7 percent.
Also dropping sharply was CBS’ The Job, which at 3.37 mil/0.7 was down 16 and 22 percent from its premiere. That set up CSI: NY (8.5 mil/1.2) for declines of 11 and 25 percent. Blue Bloods capped the Eye’s night with 10.6 mil/1.4, dipping just a few percentage points.
Over on ABC, Last Man Standing (6.7 mil/1.4) was down 9 percent and a tenth, while Malibu Country (5.7 mil/1.1) slipped 7 percent and two tenths. Shark Tank led the night in the demo by holding steady at 1.8 and added a few eyeballs (hitting 6.43 mil). 20/20 was Friday’s only gainer, rising double digits to 5.6 mil/1.5.
NBC’s Dateline (6.7 mil/1.3) ticked down a tenth, as did Rock Center (4.9 mil/1.1).
The CW’s presentation of the 2009 movie Paper Heart drew 612,000 viewers and a 0.2 rating, down 54 and 60 percent from Nikita‘s most recent numbers. But surely there was a reason for that programming choice…?
Nightclubs never forget! On Feb. 15, Drake was told to take his party elsewhere by bouncers at the Hollywood nightclub Playhouse. The reason? Because Chris Brown and his crew were already inside. Click to read the whole story.
No bottles were smashed inside the Hollywood nightclub Playhouse all because a few promoters have good memories. They begged rapper Draketo go elsewhere because Chris Brownand his posse had already been seated at a table, and Rihannawas expected to arrive as well.
The Chris Brown/Drake Brawl That Playhouse Hoped To Avoid
The Drake-Chris Brown beef has simmered considerably since last summer, but Playhouse wasn’t taking any chances. No doubt, their no-entry policy towards the “Marvin’s Room” rapper was a safeguard against repeating what went down between the two stars at W.i.P. in New York City on Jun. 14, 2012.
On that fateful night, Drake allegedly sent Chris’ table a bottle of liquor with the note, “I’m f*cking the love of your life! Deal with it!” The insult quickly escalated into a full-scale nightclub war, with members from each stars’ entourage chucking bottles — and punches — at one another.
The aftermath of the fight was unbelievable. Chris suffered a deep cut to his chin, basketball player Tony Parker scratched his retina badly — resulting in a $20 million lawsuit from the player — and W.i.P. was left in shambles. The after photo is still crazy to look at — a room covered in broken glass and spilled liquor.
So Playhouse was pulling out all the stops to avoid becoming the next battleground for Drake and Chris.
Reportedly, Drake and his crew understood the issue at hand, and left without any conflict whatsoever.
So, HollywoodLifers, did Playhouse do the right thing by banning Drake? Let us know!
Demi’s new single sounds like it’s going to be very revealing — we can’t wait! In a new interview, Demi talks all about ‘Heart Attack,’ saying it’s about ‘falling in love.’ It sounds like it may be about her on-again/off-again relationship with Wilmer! Watch the interview!
We may have a heart attack when we hear Demi Lovato’s new song. Get it? OK, please excuse my sorry excuse for humor. But in all honesty, Demi’s songs are always huge smash hits, so there’s no doubt that “Heart Attack” will have the same chart-topping success. We can only hope that Demi will reveal who the song is about — could it be Wilmer Valderrama, whom she’s rumored to be dating again?
The song is about “falling in love and like taking that risk, but she’s terrified. And she, I mean me…” Demi tells MTV.
The X Factor judge continues, “I think everyone comes to a point where they feel very vulnerable when falling in love and that’s what I’m talking about.”
In the YouTube video, Demi says she “opened up more” on her new album, and describes the songs as “the celebration of life and how rewarding it can be.”
The song will debut on Ryan Seacrest‘s morning radio show, On Air With Ryan Seacrest, on March 4.
Wilmer & Demi Back Together?
Wilmer, 33,visited his former flame on the set ofThe X Factor on Nov. 8, further igniting rumors that he and Demi have rekindled their relationship. And this is not the first time that Demi and Wilmer have been spotted together in recent months — they were reportedly seen together during a private event at Bagatelle LA on Sept. 12 in West Hollywood, among other occasions.
A source previously told HollywoodLife.com, "They are not officially dating but it's only a matter of time. They really have always liked each other, still have tons of respect for each other, and are still in love."
What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Is “Heart Attack” about Wilmer?

The Southland alum will play Dr. Christopher Benson, a beloved ER physician at a suburban hospital who’s known for his charm and dedication to his patients. But an indiscretion years ago led to him impregnating a patient; the resulting child was Bird, the series’ teen protagonist, who’s descended from an ancient line of killers and mercenaries.
As the doc gets to know his daughter, he’ll run into trouble with her adopted father — a deadly martial arts master — and test Western medicine’s limits as he treats the injured adversaries Bird leaves in her wake.
The Kill Bill-like project follows Bird, who's caught between two families of brigands and bad guys. In order to eventually have a normal life, she must defeat her mother via mortal combat.
An extended preview of ‘The Bachelor’ hometown dates has made its way online, and it looks like we’re in for one of the most dramatic moments in ‘Bachelor’ history. Desiree’s ex comes back into the picture! Watch the video.
Desiree Hartsock gets a hometown visit from Sean Lowe (hooray!), but her ex comes by uninvited and causes a bit of friction with The Bachelorwhile they’re prepping for dinner with her parents. Let’s just say that fists are clenched.
In a new preview clip, provided to People, Sean expresses how excited he is to meet Desiree’s family, but just in the nick of time, her ex knocks on the door and a VERY awkward conversation ensues — one that appears to be scripted, but yet, ends up being very entertaining!
Their altercation goes a bit like this:
Ex: Des, I love you, OK? Sean: Whoa. Ex: I’ve been texting, calling, where the hell have you been? Des: [Gestures toward Sean] I’ve been busy. Ex: We’re together for two years and all of a sudden, just nothing? I love you more than anything. Sean: I’m thinking, Maybe I just need to leave. Ex: You’re going to be with this actor? This isn’t real. Sean: First of all, I’m standing right here. You want to talk to me, talk to me … [To Des]: Do you want to talk to him? [To Ex]: Then leave please. Ex: Can you give us a minute? Sean: Don’t put your hands on me …
Then the camera pans down to Sean’s fist, which looks ready for action.
Consider this an appetizer to the main course NBC will be serving up on April 4: An exclusive first look at the delectable poster for Hannibal, Bryan Fuller’s ravenously anticipated contemporary drama series based on the characters from Thomas Harris' Red Dragon novel.
The following key art cheekily plays up Dr. Lecter’s (played by Mads Mikkelsen) fondness for, ahem, unconventional cuisine, while partially obscuring the crazed cannibal’s face.
Surprisingly, what the promotional piece lacks is a tagline — perhaps NBC’s marketing gurus wanted the provocative image to speak for itself? Or maybe — just maybe — they wanted to see what clever little slogan TVLine readers could conjure up in the comments section of this story.
So, what are you waiting for? Channel your inner Don Draper and serve up your catchiest copy to accompany Hannibal‘s first wave of propaganda. Here’s my pitch: “The Doctor will Saw You Now.”
