Lea, continuing your brilliant work as Rachel Berry on ‘Glee’ must seem like the hardest thing to do after losing the love of your life, Cory Monteith, but insiders tell HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY you’ve decided you want to stick with the role. We think that’s an unbelievably courageous decision.
Lea Michele, it must be so hard to imagine that in just a few weeks, you’ll have to be back on set prepping for scenes as the indomitable and ultra-talented Rachel Berry, who has been in love with the quarterback-turned-glee-coach, Finn Hudson — played by your tragically deceased boyfriend Cory Monteith – for Glee’s entire series.
Lea Michele: Coming Back To ‘Glee’ Without Cory Monteith
Finn and Rachel spent most of last season estranged, but their love for each other never really died, and at the end of the season, Finn told Rachel that she was his “endgame,” no matter how long it took.
When you ended that fourth season, there’s no way you thought you’d lose Cory, the man you believed you’d spend the rest of your life with.
Even though Cory struggled with substance abuse, you never stopped supporting him. You were the one who insisted he go back into rehab when you discovered he had gone back to his destructive behavior. You went to Glee creator, Ryan Murphy and he helped you stage an intervention, according to Us Weekly.
You later thought he was recovering, and doing well when he went to Vancouver with friends and you felt comfortable going on on a girls-only vacation to Cabo San Lucas with your friend and jewelry designer, Jennifer Cohen.
But now we know that no matter how devoted you were to being Cory’s guardian angel, he fell in with the wrong crowd and tragically overdosed on a lethal combination of heroin and alcohol.
Lea Michele: Use The Cast Of ‘Glee’ As A Support System
Lea, we know you’ve been inconsolable and unable to eat since Cory’s death, but you’ve also bonded with his brother and mother and made the difficult decisions to have Cory’s body cremated and to visit the Fairmount Pacific Rim, the hotel where he died, to see the memorial created by fans.
The one thing you have now is not only the love of your family and friends and Cory’s family, but the support of the entire extended cast and crew of Glee. The outpouring of emotion and support the cast has shown since Cory’s death has been enormous.
They have all spoken out about what a humble, kind, and great human being Cory was. “I HAVE NO WORDS! MY HEART IS BROKEN CORY WAS NOT ONLY A HELL OF A FRIEND HE WAS ONE AMAZING MAN THAT I WILL HOLD CLOSE TO MY HEART FOREVER,” Dot Marie Jones, who plays Coach Shannon Beiste, tweeted. And Lauren Potter, who plays Sue Sylvester’s partner-in-crime Becky, added, “I am totally heartbroken right now. I love Cory so much this hurts my heart. Cory was always so nice to me. I have so many good memories.”
None of the cast suspected that Cory was still struggling with addiction. Jane Lynch in particular was completely stunned. She broke down on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on July 17, saying, “Cory's one of the biggest hearts, was a real bright light. He was one of those guys that…you know, he knew he was breathing rarified air…the gifts that this wonderful show gave us.”
Lea Michele: Leaving ‘Glee’ Could Be Even Harder Than Continuing On
After Cory’s tragic death you have to know that you can count on the support of your fellow cast-mates. Going back to the show could actually be the best decision for you emotionally — you couldn’t hope for a more understanding place to be.
Everyone will be there to talk about Cory, to fondly remember him, share the good times, to hold your hand and give you hugs, and to be shoulders to cry on.
We understand that everything you do — everywhere you will look — on set will bring back difficult memories. But if you didn’t go back, that could be even harder and even lonelier than being with a group of people who loved Cory almost as much as you did.
The cast of Glee will keep you busy and will be with you every day. That is the hardest thing to do when you lose a loved one — just get through each day.
Lea, being alone and having free time could actually be the worst thing for you. You would have too much time to miss him; too much time to reflect on what could have been, every second of your days and nights.
Lea Michele: Cory Monteith Would Have Wanted The Best For You
The people who care about you and who loved Cory will help you through this difficult time.
Sometimes it’s best to just carry on, and you will carry on in this case, with the help of your Glee cast-mates. We can that it’s what Cory would have wanted.
We give you our greatest admiration in taking the steps back to the set and we wish you the best as you grieve the death of the love of your life, Cory Monteith.
