Feb 20th 2013, 03:34

It was kiss-and-tell week on ‘The Lying Game,’ and pretty soon there won’t be any couples left!

Has Rebecca’s (Charisma Carpenter) wicked little plan finally come to fruition? The Feb. 19 episode of The Lying Game marked the official demise of the Mercers’ marriage after Alec (Adrian Pasdar) was caught kissing Kristen (Helen Slater) at the club — which, of course, Rebecca couldn’t wait to bring to Ted’s (Andy Buckley) attention. And in other unsurprising news, it wasn’t long before Ted and Rebecca found themselves in a little lip lock of their own!

Meanwhile, Emma (Alexandra Chando) continued to wrestle with her feelings for Thayer (Christian Alexander); though not quite as much as Thayer, who literally wrestled with Ethan (Blair Redford) over Emma. And just to make matters even more complicated, Laurel (Allie Gonino) told Ethan that Emma still has feelings for him, and suggested that he go after her. I’m sorry, did you expect things to get easier at this stage in the game?

Ethan snuck into Emma’s bedroom — which is equal parts romantic and stalker-y — to remind her they’re “everything” together. She looked like she enjoyed the kiss, but like everyone on the show, she also felt guilty for technically cheating.

Oh, and remember when Ryan Rottman told HollywoodLife.com that Jordan had a few skeletons in his closet? The boney devils started coming out this week when Jordan told Mads (Alice Greczyn) the truth about his relationship with Rebecca: It turns out she helped him out of a jam a few years back, and now she’s threatening to turn him in if he doesn’t do exactly what she says.

And because no episode of The Lying Game would be complete without a last-minute twist, Sutton called Theresa to give her a “shocking” piece of news, but before they got a chance to meet up, Theresa was kidnapped!

What did you think of this week’s episode? Do you predict Sutton will eventually turn on Rebecca? Who kidnapped Theresa? And which guy should Emma be with? Drop a comment with your thoughts and theories below!

Hollywood Life: Rihanna Turns 25 — Happy Birthday

thumbnail Rihanna Turns 25 — Happy Birthday
Feb 20th 2013, 05:00

You bet Rihanna wants that cake, cake, cake! She turns 25 on Feb. 20! Happy Birthday!

Since her debut in 2005, Rihanna has transformed from sweet Barbados beauty into bad-girl extraordinaire! In a 2013 interview with Rolling Stone magazine, the star confirmed that she rekindled her relationship with ex-boyfriend and fellow singer, Chris Brown. Maybe Chris will help her feel like the only girl in the world on her big day!

Rihanna’s Music Career

RiRi is kind of big deal. She has received 6 Grammy Awards and has sold over 37 million albums worldwide. Currently, she holds the record for top-selling digital artist of all time. We’ll cheers to that! In 2012, she was named by Forbes as the number one social networking superstar, having over 60 million fans on Facebook and 25 million followers on Twitter. Well, hello miss popular! She also has over 2.7 billion views on YouTube, and growing! Her countless top singles speak for themselves–this girl has got some serious pipes! Whoever sings her happy birthday better practice!

Rihanna’s seventh album, Unapologetic, is her most recent success. It debuted at number one in the U.S. on Nov. 19, 2012. It became her first number one album in the country and was the best-selling debut week of her entire career. You go girl! The lead single off the album, “Diamonds”, became the star’s 12th number one hit, tying her with Madonna and The Supremes for the fifth most number one songs in the Billboard Chart’s history!

Rihanna Strikes Gold

Her new song, “Pour It Up”, sums up her year quite nicely in saying, “All I see is dollar signs.” Rihanna is seeing more dollar signs than ever this year, having landed the number four spot on Forbes Celebrity 100 list in May 2012. Hits such as “We Found Love” and “Talk That Talk” combined with recent endorsements by Vita Coco and Nivea have pushed RiRi to the top! Her fragrance, Reb’l Fleur, is also responsible for raking in millions for the bad girl.

Rihanna is looking forward to kicking off her Diamonds World Tour, starting March 8, 2013. Her previous tour, “LOUD”, set expectations high after grossing over $90 million worldwide!

With so much success in the past year, Rihanna will have no problem raising a glass! But what’s left for Rihanna to wish for when she blows out her candles?

Join us, HollywoodLifers, in wishing Rihanna the best birthday ever!

TVLine: Smash Recap: Dramaturg the Beat Around

thumbnail Smash Recap: Dramaturg the Beat Around
Feb 20th 2013, 04:32

Don’t get me wrong: I love Smash. I love that it’s made me a huge fan of Megan Hilty. I love that it’s employing not one but two American Idol divas. I love its music and its inside-Broadway politics and, yes, even its sometimes inconsistent storytelling.

That said, if ratings don’t improve on the not-so-hot returns from the show’s Season 2 premiere, maybe NBC could reconcieve it as a half-hour comedy entitled Tom & Julia. Picture it: He writes the music, she writes the stories, and together they create Broadway magic with the help of their wacky theatre buddies: Ivy, the brassy triple-threat who speaks before she thinks; Karen, the wide-eyed midwestern gal perpetually aghast at their big-city ways; Eileen, producer extraordinaire who’s quick with a quip and even quicker with tossing cocktails into her enemies’ faces; and Derek, the on-the-make director who’s always dodging starlet-shaped bullets.

Okay, okay, that’d be same cast, different show. I just had that flight of fancy watching this week’s episode — entitled “The Dramaturg” — with Christian Borle and Debra Messing’s Tom and Julia slyly sneaking into a Manhattan eatery to meet the man assigned to fixing the problems plaguing their Broadway musical. Thank goodness the story arc allowed Messing to bring some of her deft comic timing to a role that’s occasionally been too dour. “Russell Crowe is more collaborative!” she complained to Tom of their new colleague Peter (Broadway vet Daniel Sunjata). “North Korea is more collaborative!”

Anyway, before I delve too deeply into sitcom-that-isn’t territory, let’s break down this week’s main plot developments:

A BOMBSHELL DROPS ON BOMBSHELL | With the Marilyn Monroe musical’s fate still murky — and the early reviews pointing to Julia’s book as a major problem — Eileen hires a dramaturg to help with the writing process. Naturally, he’s hot as a thousand klieg lights, but when Julia sees how many Post-Its he’s stuck to the Bombshell script, she goes into angry artiste mode. (No, Peter’s assessment that Bombshell in its current form is a “biopic — and a “two-dimensional” one at that — doesn’t help.) Later, she confronts him while he’s out to dinner with pals (“You have a chatty doorman!” Julia says, explaining how she tracked him down), and Peter demands to know why a musical about one of the world’s greatest sex symbols was so totally void of sex. “Where was the steam on the windows?” Julia takes out her aggression by enlisting Tom and writing a new Kennedy-Marilyn seduction number that they stage the next day for a delighted Eileen. But wait — it’s far from perfect, notes a very astute Peter, who points out Julia’s clichés idea of “Marilyn as prey” and dismisses those old “shadow selves” from the original script with extreme prejudice. (Huzzah!) I’m looking forward to the duo banging heads (and other body parts?) while breathing new life into the show (Bombshell, but also Smash) for weeks to come.

IVY LYNN SCORES A LIAISON (NOT THAT KIND OF LIAISON) | Our former (and I still hope future) Marilyn takes a chance while auditioning for the chorus of the musical revival of Liaisons and asks to read for the juicy role of Cecile. She turns to Derek for some advice on how to land the part, but winds up being forced to watch his Bombshell rehearsals and offer him constructive feedback. (Ivy’s subsequent fantasy sequence, with her reimagining Robyn’s “Dancing on My Own” as a plaintive ballad, showed how music really can advance the plot.) Later, Ivy refines her take on the character — “she sounds like Karen Cartwright,” she says with an evil grin when Tom points out the gal is “innocent and nice and yearning” — but eventually draws parallels with Marilyn and herself, and ends up getting the part. (Finally a win for our hard-trying veteran!) As Ivy thanks Tom, she plants a seed in his brain: Maybe he should consider directing, considering he has a wider understanding of theater, and gets good performances while being a decent human being to his cast. “Art without torture,” Tom muses. “I don’t think it’s possible!” But methinks he doth protest a little too hastily.

THAT IRRITATING SONGWRITER FROM BROOKLYN CONTINUES TO IRRITATE | The episode opens with a purple-haired Karen belting a dance-pop number surrounded by elated nightclub patrons, but it turns out she’s just imagining a number from The Hit List as Derek listens to a demo of one of Kyle and Jimmy’s songs. She scores the duo a meeting with the big-shot director, and Jimmy uses the opportunity to make an unseemly suggestion about Karen’s recent successes.: “What did you have to do to get your Error: Break shortcode syntax invalid?” Ugh, could the guy be any worse? Actually, yes. After breaking into his and Kyle’s old apartment and getting punched in the lip — in order to retrieve some vital notes on their show — Jimmy gets into a huff when Karen and Derek have to postpone because of actual paying work. “Let’s bounce!” he says to Kyle, making me dislike him even more. He then busts in on Bombshell rehearsals, makes a spectacle of himself and yet comes away thinking he’s the injured party. Somehow, Karen convinces Derek to head to the fledgling writers’ Brooklyn apartment, where a pitch is made, music is played and a possible collaboration begins. Oh, and also Karen hands a beer to Kyle before she hands one to Derek, so you know that means a triangle is a’formin’! Gawd, Karen needs to see a therapist who can help her stop having terrible taste in men.

DOROTHY DECIDES TO BREAK OUT OF KANSAS | Finally, Veronica, displeased with the direction of a proposed revival of The Wiz, drops out of the show (but not before a gorgeous rendition of “Home”). Now she wants to do a (brace for Dreamgirls reference) “one-night only” concert that will go down in history as one of those things so many New Yorkers will regret having missed. She doesn’t want to be a Broadway baby anymore; she’s a grown-ass woman of 30, and Derek is exactly the director who can dirty up her image a little. I know J.Hud sings it in her Weight Watchers ads, but is it wrong for me to want Veronica to belt “Feeling Good” during her concert? If it is, I don’t want to be right, people!

Anyhow, did you think of this week’s Smash? Are you excited about the hot dramaturg? Were you gasping over how he looked in that brown shirt with the white collar (or was that just me)? Are you excited with the direction Bombshell is taking? And do you sometimes wish someone would drop a bomb on Jimmy? Sound off in the comments!

Onetime Memphis Beat lawman Jason Lee has a new beat, as a police detective on CBS’ Second Sight pilot.

An adaptation of the British crime drama starring Clive Owen, Second Sight will star Lee as Tanner, the lead detective with the New Orleans Police Department. Tanner, though, is concealing a troublesome secret: He has an ocular disorder that causes him to have horrifying, visually stimulating anxiety dreams and hallucinations.

Assured by his doctor that he will not go blind, Tanner is encouraged to think of the side effects as a “gift,” signposts from his subconscious that –  hey! — help him solve crimes.

Hollywood Life: ‘Bachelor’ Recap: Sean Lowe Admits Eliminating Desiree Was A Mistake

Latest Hollywood Gossip, News & Celeb Pics
thumbnail 'Bachelor' Recap: Sean Lowe Admits Eliminating Desiree Was A Mistake
Feb 20th 2013, 03:32

In a ‘Bachelor’ special, Sean Lowe sits down with host Chris Harrison and dishes all the dirt about this season, and he really reveals all!

Sean Lowe sat down with The Bachelor host Chris Harrison on Feb. 19 to reveal all of the gossip from behind the scenes this season, including why he sent home one of America’s favorite contestants, Desiree, why he kept that evil witch Tierra around for so long, and he reveals all the sexy details of the fantasy suite dates. Sean bared his heart — and his chest — and it was juicy!

Sean Lowe Reveals His Regret At Sending Home Desiree

Firstly, Chris gets right to the chase and asks Sean how he feels about sending home Desiree after home town dates on Feb. 18, and Sean revealed that he is still unsure about doing that. I knew it; I totally called this. And if you don’t believe me, watch the video below. Chris asked was Desiree’s crazy and slightly Freudian brother to blame, and Sean kinda jumped around that question.

"It influenced me… I didn’t know even after if I would regret it… but I wouldn’t have sent her home if she was the girl for me," said the Texan beefcake.

Poor Desiree. Perhaps she will find comfort in knowing that none of the girls got hot and heavy with Sean on the fantasy suite dates!

Sean Talks About The Other Girls He Sent Home

Three Bachelor favorites to win were Sarah, Lesley and sexy Selma, but Sean sent all the those fine girls home, and now he reveals why. Sean told Chris — who is a like a charming uncle in this tell all — that Sarah was just not the one for him, Selma was not as prudish as she let on (I am raising my eyebrows in fake disbelief) and he was unconvinced that Lesley was into him.

Just because you have abs that you could grate cheese on does not mean that everyone is crazy for you Sean!

Sean Opens Up About ‘Tierrable’ Tierra

Sean says he was “duped” by Tierra. Well, duh! Sean looked sexy and sad when he talked about how he was hoodwinked by that evil hag, and he says “she never should have come on the show.”

Well, I hated Tierra more than anyone, but we must admit she and her eyebrows made excellent television.

Sean Talks About Fantasy Suite Dates

The fantasy suite episode does not air until Feb. 25, but we can reveal that viewers can expect a whole lot of sexy… nothing. Sean is keeping tight lipped on the subject, because presumably he and the girls – AshLee, Lindsay and Catherine — sat around playing Gin Rummy and doing cross word puzzles.

Sean told Chris that he thought the fantasy suite dates were a great opportunity to "spend time alone." It sounds promising, until Sean tells nosy parker Chris that "it's really none of your business," when Chris asked if he got “physical” with any of the girls.

Boo! Don’t be such a spoilsport Sean!

What do YOU think HollywoodLifers? Do YOU think Sean spilled all the beans? Are you excited for fantasy suite dates?

Feb 20th 2013, 03:23

“Well, hey, these things just snap right off.”

No, we have no idea what that means — but that was just one of the questions raised by The CW’s Cult, which debuted Tuesday night.

Cult follows a disgraced reporter named Jeff (played by Vampire Diaries alum Matt Davis) as he investigates the vanishing of his brother, who’d gotten too close to the strongly rumored and literal cult fan base of a TV series called, yes, Cult.

On the CW show-within-a-CW show, Robert Knepper (Prison Break) plays the actor who plays cult leader Billy Grimm, while Alona Tal (Veronica Mars) is the actress who plays a police detective nipping at Billy’s heels.

Jessica Lucas (Melrose Place) is Skye, a production assistant on the Cult-within-Cult, who helps Jeff sniff around the series’ rabid fanbase (they congregate in trendy bars to sit at laptops and visit websites about the show!) and delve into its dark secrets.

As the pilot drew to a close, Jeff discovered a DVD matching one seen on the show. When popped into his MIA bro’s laptop, it triggered a panicky phone call from his sib, begging him to back off of his investigation. Billy Grimm (or was it the actor who plays Billy?) then came on screen to warn Jeff, “You’re next.”

Oh, and one of the local cops “aiding” in the investigation but dismissing Jeff (remember, he’s digsraced) every step of the way is apparently a member of the cult.

But enough of that. Really. Tell us what you thought of the premiere. Including: Would you rather simply watch the Cult-within-Cult starring Alona Tal?

As far as casting news goes, this is about as good as it gets: Former Saturday Night Live superstar Kristen Wiig is set to make an appearance in Netflix’s anticipated Arrested Development revival as a younger version of Jessica Walter’s Lucille Bluth.

As noted by Vulture, which first broke the news, AD vet Jason Bateman likely orchestrated the casting coup, given his off screen friendship with Wiig (the pair co-starred in the comedies Extract and Paul).

Last month, Netflix announced that Arrested Development‘s 14-episode fourth season would be available sometime in May.

In addition to Wiig, guest stars on tap for the relaunch include Seth Rogen, Liza Minnelli (aka Lucille 2), Conan O'BrienJohn Slattery (Mad Men)Chris Diamantopoulos (24)Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers) and Terry Crews (Everybody Hates Chris).

Hollywood Life: ‘Pretty Little Liars’ Recap: A Sudden Accident Changes Wilden’s Game Plan

Plus, is Spencer finally ready to come clean about Toby?!

Because Rosewood clearly has no other crimes in need of solving, Detective Wilden (Bryce Johnson) spent the entire Feb. 19 episode of Pretty Little Liars terrorizing the girls, trying to make them stay quiet about the photo taken at Cape May. He specifically targeted Hanna (Ashley Benson), but after a rough encounter with Ashley (Laura Leighton), I don’t think Hanna will have to worry about Wilden for much longer…

…because she hit him with her car! That’s right, Hanna’s mom is officially a boss and drove her car straight into him. But when she and Hanna returned to the scene of the crime — you know, because that‘s always a good idea — his body was nowhere to be found!

#WheresWilden?

Spencer Spills The BeAns

After a delightful night on the town with Wren (Julian Morris), which included a kiss that got #TeamWrencer trending worldwide, Spencer (Troian Bellisario) returned home to find a very angry — though very well styled — Melissa (Torrey DeVitto.) Like most bloodhounds, Melissa was able to smell the cologne on Spencer’s jacket, then promptly chewed her out for seeing Wren behind her back. For someone with such a nice new haircut, she seemed awfully uppity.

Maybe that’s because she’s also got something to hide! After interrogating CeCe (Vanessa Ray) about being at Cape May with Ali (Sasha Pieterse) and Wilden, Emily (Shay Mitchell) learned that Melissa was the one who took the picture. She was also desperate to get her hands on a video tape of Ali the night she died, which puts her right back near the top of my suspect list.

Spencer, meanwhile, decided she was sick and tired of keeping the truth about Toby (Keegan Allen) all to herself, so she started to tell Aria (Lucy Hale) — but will she really go through with it?

Paige’s Past

Desperate to find out who rented the Queen of Hearts suit on Halloween, the girls hit up Rosewood’s infamous costume shop, but Shana (Aeriél Miranda) wasn’t in the mood to talk once she realized Paige (Lindsey Shaw) had brought her “girlfriends” along. It turns out Paige and Shana have a bit of history, and even though Paige insists they’re over, is anyone ever really over on this show?

I think not.

Ezra’s Back! (Or, Ezra Is Back.)

Ezra (Ian Harding) also returned to Rosewood this week after spending some time with Maggie and Malcolm, but because no one is allowed to be happy on this show for too long, his mother wasn’t too far behind him. She tried to convince Aria to leave her son, as his whole life is about to change and become about Malcolm, but she stuck by him because she loves him. And because he’s crazy beautiful.

What Aria didn’t do, however, was tell Ezra the truth about her kiss with Wesley (Gregg Sulkin) last week. She came close twice, but always found an awkward way around it at the last minute. After everything she’s been through, does she really think Ezra will never find out?!

What did you think of this week’s episode? Is Wilden really gone for good, or just laying low? Should Aria tell Ezra that she kissed Wesley? And what’s really going on with Shana and Paige? Drop me a comment with your thoughts and theories!

Hollywood Life: Kelly Clarkson: Good For You For Standing Up For Yourself

Kelly Clarkson, it’s always important for women to stand up for themselves, so I applaud you for taking to your blog to make sure your version of the truth was told when it comes to how Clive Davis represents your relationship in his new memoir!

Kelly Clarksonwhile we weren’t in the room for the conversations you had with Clive Davis that the music legend has written about in his new memoir, The Soundtrack Of My Life, we’re certainly glad that you have taken the opportunity to write your version of the truth on your WhoSay page, as you did on Feb. 19. It’s important that all sides are heard in this story, not just one.

Kelly, we respect Clive. He’s a musical genius who discovered some incredible talent, fostering the careers of such artists, including yourself. But we equally respect you. The HollywoodLife audience loves your music and your message of strength for women. You really understand how women feel in both good and bad relationships, Kelly, and our audience relates to that — they’re happy that you’re able to provide a voice for them.

Millions of people will read Clive’s memoir, The Soundtrack Of My Life, and since you have different memories about the passages in question, what you did is important.

Kelly Clarkson’s Side Of The Story

In your post, you write, “So I just heard Clive Davis is releasing a memoir and spreading false information about me and my music. I refuse to be bullied and I just have to clear up his memory lapses and misinformation for myself and for my fans. It feels like a violation. Growing up is awesome because you learn you don’t have to cower to anyone – even Clive Davis.

Kelly Defends ‘Because Of You’

First, he says I burst into ‘hysterical sobbing’ in his office when he demanded ‘Since You Been Gone’ be on my album. Not true at all. His stories and songs are mixed up. I did want more guitars added to the original demo and Clive did not. Max, Luke and I still fought for the bigger sound and we prevailed and I couldn’t be more proud of the life of that song. I resent him dampening that song in any way. But, yes, I did cry in his office once. I cried after I played him a song I had written about my life called ‘Because Of You.’ I cried because he hated it and told me verbatim that I was a ‘sh*tty writer who should be grateful for the gifts that he bestows upon me.’ He continued on about how the song didn’t rhyme and how I should just shut up and sing. This was devastating coming from a man who I, as a young girl, considered a musical hero and was so honored to work with. But I continued to fight for the song and the label relented. And it became a worldwide hit. He didn’t include that in the book.

Kelly Blasts Clive Davis For His Lack Of Support

He also goes on to say My December wasn’t successful because I co-penned the album and it didn’t have ‘pop hits.’ Well, first let me say, I’ve co-penned many of my ‘pop hits.’ Secondly, My December went platinum (It sold 20,000 less than All I Ever Wanted which followed My December.) Hardly a huge failure. ‘Never Again’, the ONLY single they released in the US from that record was a Top 10 hit. I am very proud of that and I have my fans to thank. But, again, what’s most interesting about his story is what he leaves out: He doesn’t mention how he stood up in front of his company at a convention and belittled me and my music and completely sabotaged the entire project. It never had a chance to reach it’s full potential. My December was an album I needed to make for myself for many reasons and the fact that I was so completely disregarded and disrespected was so disheartening, there really aren’t words to explain….

Anyway, I love my job. I love my music. I love my fans. I love my label and all of my professional relationships…now. And I am grateful for Clive for teaching me to know the difference.”

Good For You, Kelly!

Kelly, we remember these hits that you and Clive had tension over, and we’re glad you recorded them. We respect you for standing up for yourself. It’s always important for young women to speak up when they feel their side of the truth isn’t being heard.

Kelly V Clive: Who’s Telling The Truth?

In this war of words, we wonder: whose side of the story do you believe? What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Will you be reading Clive’s new book any time soon? Do you respect Kelly for speaking up and defending herself?
