Justin’s made his stripteases a part of his show on his ‘Believe’ tour — and now a new report reveals why! Read on to find out just why the Biebs can’t keep his clothes on!

It seems like every time Justin Bieber has taken to the stage recently, the pop star has managed to strip down and reveal his sexy abs. While we certainly aren’t complaining, we have been wondering just what it is that’s set the “Beauty and a Beat” singer on his skin-baring mission!

According to a new report in Us Weekly, a source close to Justin says that the stripdowns are a part of his larger effort to shake up how his fans view him. “Justin wanted to change his image around his 18th birthday last March,” the insider says. “Justin wanted to move from being pop-py to sexy.”

Justin Bieber’s Fitness Regimen

Justin’s been working his hardest to maintain the body that he shows off so often, he says. “I train every morning,” he tells the magazine. “We do body-weight stuff. Just trying to…get some guns!” All the hard work is definitely paying off!

Justin’s Upcoming Acoustic Album

The 18-year-old singer hasn’t only been working hard on his body. He’s also been hard at work in the studio, finalizing the acoustic version of Believe, due in stores on Jan. 29. On Jan. 9, Justin tweeted about the upcoming album. “Excited for #20Days from now when my acoustic album will let u know how I feel about what is going on in my life instead of rumors guessing. Put it in the music. Guess all u want I speak for myself. #20Days."

It’s looking like Justin’s new songs on the album will be about ex-girlfriend, Selena Gomez. His camp has confirmed that “Nothing Like Us” will “give fans an unprecedented and intimate glimpse of young love.”

Hollywood Life: ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Recap: A Lawsuit Shocker Shakes Up The Hospital

Jan 18th 2013, 05:10

Plus, Meredith & Derek finally loop their friends in on the baby news!

A month after Adele’s (Loretta Devine) death, the doctors’ lawsuit against the hospital was finally over on the Jan. 17 episode of Grey’s Anatomy. The judge found the hospital “negligent” for choosing an airline that had a history of mechanical problems and awarded Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), Derek (Patrick Dempsey), Arizona (Jessica Capshaw), Cristina (Sandra Oh), and Callie (Sara Ramirez) $15 million — each!

After a month of recovery time from his hand surgery, Derek finally returned to work. While Derek was eager to get back in the OR, Callie had other plans for the brain surgeon. Derek was stuck practicing his wrist strength by playing ping pong with Shane (Gaius Charles), which ended up serving as entertainment for the other doctors.

Avery (Jesse Williams) inherited Sloan’s (Eric Dane) long-time patient with facial bone deformities. Although Sloan had previously set up a plan for the patient to follow, Avery wanted to take a different approach, which caused some tension with Arizona. Avery stuck with his decision to go with his approach, and lucky for him, the surgery was a success!

Although the lawsuit was finally settled, the air wasn’t completely cleared. A huge weight may have been lifted from Owen’s (Kevin McKidd) shoulders, but Derek still held a grudge against him because he made the decision to choose the faulty airline.

Meanwhile, Alex (Justin Chambers) was becoming baffled by his new friendship with Jo (Camilla Luddington) after spending more solely platonic time together. (Of course, Alex doesn’t know how to function in a relationship with a girl that doesn’t involve sex.)

Alex wasn’t the only one having relationship issues; Avery revealed to April (Sarah Drew) that he had been sleeping with Stephanie (Jerrika Hinton) since Bailey’s (Chandra Wilson) wedding. Reacting like any woman in her position would, April continued to push Avery away by telling him she wasn’t ready to be his friend.

After Adele’s death, everyone was walking on eggshells around the Chief (James Pickens Jr.). Although he refused the doctors attempts to comfort him, he was finally able to open up to Katherine (Debbie Allen) and accepted her support.

With Meredith’s second trimester approaching, Derek urged Meredith to finally share her pregnancy news with Cristina. She had her perfect opportunity at a celebratory dinner for the lawsuit with Derek, Callie, Arizona, and Cristina. After refusing to take part in the champagne toast, Meredith gleefully announced she was pregnant. The dinner also helped soften Derek’s heart, and he called Owen to let him know he had no hard feelings over the crash.

Although things finally seemed to be looking up for Owen, that wasn’t the case. The insurance company that was supposed to pay the doctors found a loophole so they refused to pay. Now, Seattle Grace Mercy West will be forced to pay off the doctors, causing the hospital to go bankrupt.

Hollywood Life: Lance Armstrong Reveals To Oprah: I Bullied My Teammates Into Doping

Jan 18th 2013, 04:45

The former 7-time Tour de France winner revealed to Oprah that not only did he use banned drugs during his professional cycling career, everyone else did too — and he pressured his teammates into it! Read on for more details about the interview.

Lance Armstrong sat down with Oprah Winfrey for his first interview since the truth behind his performance-enhancing drug scandal was revealed. On Oprah’s Next Chapter, the former professional cyclist — who was stripped of his seven titles and banned from the sport for life — opens up about the details of his drug use.

Lance Armstrong Reveals The Performance-Enhancing Drugs He Used

Oprah began the interview jumping right into asking Lance yes or no questions about which banned drugs he used during his professional cycling career, including for the seven times he won the Tour de France races.

Lance answered yes to using EPO, blood transfusions and “others,” including cortisone and/or testosterone.

He also said that it was commonplace in the sport, and even though he wouldn’t admit to “everybody doing it,” he implied that it was more common to use banned performance-enhancing drugs than uncommon.

“I didn't invent the culture, but I didn't try to stop it,” he said. “I didn't have access to anything else that nobody else did.”

Lance also revealed that passing drug tests during the late ’90s and early 2000s was easy because they were tested on race days, in which the athletes were clean — and there wasn’t a test for EPO yet.

But he also insists that the last time he took performance-enhancing drugs was the last time he won first place — 2005. During his comeback in 2009 and 2010, he was not doped up.

Lance Calls Himself A Team Captain ‘Bully’

When Oprah asked Lance if he was a bully, he candidly revealed that he was — and as the captain of his US Postal and Discovery Channel cycling teams, he expected everyone to comply with his rules. And if riders didn’t agree with what he said, he viewed it as a betrayal — and he would get angry.

Of course, Oprah parlayed that mentality into asking if he forced his teammates to also take performance-enhancing drugs, which Lance denied — sort of. He said he never “verbally” forced anyone into taking drugs, but the pressure and expectation to win all of the time was there.

And as the team captain, Lance said he led by example — and his example was being doped up makes you a fiercer and more winning competitor.

Lance Armstrong Doesn’t Believe He Was A Cheater

Despite the years of Lance vehemently denying that he ever took performance-enhancing drugs, even when teammates and insiders in his circle spoke out with evidence that he had, he said in the interview that he does not consider himself a cheater.

“I looked up the definition of cheater, and it implies that you are against a rival or foe,” Lance said. “I didn’t do that. I used it as a level playing field.”

Lance also told Oprah he didn’t understand that magnitude of his drug scandal, even though he was dating rockstar Sheryl Crow and was an international legendary athlete.

He said he was too focused on playing and winning the game than thinking about the outcome. But now, he says, he understands his many mistakes.

“I will spend the rest of my life trying to earn back trust,” he said. “For the rest of my life.”

The second part of Oprah’s interview with Lance airs on OWN on Friday, Jan. 18.

TVLine: Scandal Post Mortem: Shonda Rhimes Weighs In on the Big Fitz Twist

thumbnail Scandal Post Mortem: Shonda Rhimes Weighs In on the Big Fitz Twist
Jan 18th 2013, 04:00

Warning: The following contains spoilers from this week’s episode of ABC’s Scandal.

This Thursday on Scandal, President Fitzgerald Grant returned to his rightful place in the Oval Office, having (mostly) recovered from gunshots sustained during an assassination attempt. And one of his first orders of business was personal, asking wife Mellie for a divorce.

Damn.

Of course, the first question that comes to mind is whether Fitz was in his right mind when he suggested the split, especially given his fragile condition and quite possibly compromised mental state.

“Some people will assume this is part of the accident,” series creator Shonda Rhimes tells TVLine. “And some people will think that it is very, very real.”

But what does Scandal‘s puppetmaster herself think? “I think it’s real. I do,” Rhimes says.

Explaining her point of view, Rhimes continues, “You go through something like that and you wake up and you think, ‘I’m done pretending.’ I think he’s done pretending. For a very long time he’s been a man who’s wanted to be done pretending and hasn’t had the opportunity to walk away from this life that he feels caged into. He’s a man who has everything – and hates having everything.”

Plus, this is not the first time we’ve heard Fitz toss around the D-word. “He tried to do it once last season,” Rhimes reminds, “but now I think he feels like it’s really his chance. “

OK, but wanting to end a marriage and actually doing it are very different things — even more so when you’re the sitting President of the United States. So is this all just so much talk? “We will see him make an effort to see if divorce is possible,” Rhimes previews.

Really? Even though the First Lady is expecting America’s Baby? “That will have an interesting effect,” Rhimes responds. “An effect maybe [you won't] anticipate.”

What did you think of this week’s episode “A Criminal, a Whore, an Idiot and a Liar”?

Hollywood Life: ‘American Idol’ Recap: Mariah Carey Calls Nicki Minaj Her ‘Evil Sister’

Hollywood Life
Latest Hollywood Gossip, News & Celeb Pics
thumbnail 'American Idol' Recap: Mariah Carey Calls Nicki Minaj Her 'Evil Sister'
Jan 18th 2013, 04:00

Night two of ‘American Idol’ had more amazing voices, comically bad contestants, and of course, more Nicki Minaj & Mariah Carey drama.

The second night of the season 12 American Idol premiere took us to Chicago, and there were some absolutely memorable contestants — both good and bad.

And then there were Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey. From Nicki’s highlighter hair and leopard-print suit to Mariah’s wonderfully blown-out hair — that is obviously full of secrets — theses two judges kept the night interesting. Will the battle of the divas ever end, or has it just gotten started?

Who Was Not-So-Hot

Just because you wear stars on your clothes, that doesn’t mean you’re a star — and Melissa Bush learned that the hard way. As she sang “Downtown” while wearing a pink, sparkly disco jumpsuit, I was reminded of Saturday Night Fever and Sailor Moon. Although that sounds like an amazing combo, I can assure you it was not.

I will preface my intro of Gabe Brown by saying this 21 year old from Iowa City actually DID make it through to Hollywood. He sang/yelled the classic rock song “Give Me Shelter,” and normally I’d be all about it. But I just wasn’t that impressed. Even when Gabe sang his “soft” song, “We All Die Young,” I still didn’t see what the judges saw. But we’ll have to wait until Hollywood to see who was right.

Kevin Nabity loves Ninja Turtles, twirling sticks and break dancing. This already sounds like a recipe for disaster. Although Kevin was confident he was the next American Idol, his rendition of the Barenaked Ladies‘ “One Week” may or may not have been in coherent English. Guess he should just keep to stick twirling — then again, maybe not.

Ieisha Cotton is a professional dancer, but has dreams of becoming a singer. I’m not sure if the judges were being completely honest when they said her dancing was good, but I know they were honest when they said she should NEVER sing again. “Baby, you’re tone deaf,” Randy Jackson bluntly put it, and you know it’s bad when Randy can’t even fake being nice.

I have very little to say about musical theater student Ashley Curry except for this: my ears are still bleeding. She said people claim her voice is like nothing they’ve ever heard before — and she’s right. I never have heard a pack of wild hyenas before.

Who Impressed Me

Mackenzie Wasner from Tennessee was the first contestant on the show and started the night off on a high note. Her smooth country voice got a yes from each judge and got her a golden ticket to Hollywood. I think Keith Urban may have even shed a tear or two for the fellow country singer.

Singing for President Obama seems like proof enough of one’s talent to me, but for Kiara Lanier that wasn’t where she wanted her career to stop. Kiara wowed the judges with her gorgeous voice and winning personality. Keith even said she “came ready to be a star.” And boy did she!

Fifteen-year-old Isabelle Parell was the only contestant to request a duet from one of the judges. Keith joined Isabelle in the classic holiday duet “Baby It’s Cold Outside.” During the duet, I think Isabelle blew Keith out of the water. The high school student was smooth, youthful, cute, poised and absolutely flawless.

Let’s be honest: We’ve all been waiting for the hottie of season 12, and we may have found him in Griffin Peterson. The 22-year-old Wisconsin native fulfilled my teenage dreams of finding an acoustic, cafe singer with and amazing voice. Needless to say, he got yes’s from all the women, as well as a heck yes from me. I’ll be seeing you in Hollywood, Griffin.

If you didn’t shed a tear when adorable Lazaro Arbos auditioned, then you don’t have a soul. The Cuba native suffers from a severe stutter, and in school he had few friends and often had to rely on his mother speak for him because he simply couldn’t get the words to come out. He doesn’t know where his speech impediment came from, and he doesn’t know why he has it, but he’s determined not to let it get him down.  “You can’t let things get you down because you have to keep going,” Lazaro said emotionally. As he sang “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” I literally felt my heart melt — and let me tell you, it takes a lot to break this girl’s icy exterior. I venture to say that Lazaro is the one to beat this season.

I have to admit I thought fire performer Kez Ban was sure to be the joke of tonight’s episode, but boy was I wrong. The up-and-comer but beginner fire performer, balloon animal maker and street performer was my favorite of the night. She was weird and awkward but totally authentic. Her original song she sang was beautiful and cool, and I actually started to sing along to it. I have my eyes on you, Kez Ban.

Did Nicki Minaj & Mariah Carey Get Along Yet?

The easy answer to everyone’s burning question is: No, Nicki and Mariah did not getting along.

After almost EVERY contestant sang, Nicki and Mariah started to bicker. Yes, we know you’re loud and outspoken, Nicki. Yes, we know you have one of the best voices ever, Mariah. But do you two have to fight about it all night?

As Nicki was rolling her eyes to the camera, Mariah was whipping her voluminous her hair back and and forth, while casually blowing off Nicki. Honestly, Keith had the proper response — bang head against desk.

Mariah once tried to keep her composure as Nicki went off on a bizarre, British accent rant. However she eventually lost it and “beeped out” Nicki. No, literally, she said “beep” while Nicki was speaking.

Nicki responded appropriately by saying, “You’re dismissed.” It was priceless.

But by far the best part of the night was when Mariah dubbed herself and a contestant “Cinderella” and Nicki “the evil sister.” This did not go over well with Nicki and thus the diva battle of the season began.

Jan 18th 2013, 03:24

The Vampire Diaries returned Thursday night, and it was packed with action exposition! See, Rebekah’s back, and she wants to know what she’s missed, so that means a recap of the season so far! (She’s right, a flow chart would be nice!)

RELATED | The Vampire Diaries May Spawn Klaus-Centric Spin-Off The Originals

While she mostly just asks questions, the Original sister does more than her fair share of emotional damage while holding Elena, Stefan and Caroline against their will. Compelled to tell the truth by Rebekah, Elena unleashes her honest feelings about the brothers Salvatore right in front of Stefan.

"I didn’t sleep with Damon because of the sire bond," she says. "I slept with Damon because I'm in love with him." The revelation seems to be as surprising to Elena as it is to her ex-boyfriend. But that’s not enough feelings talk for Rebekah, so she presses the Gilbert gal to expand.

"Being with Damon makes me happy," she adds. "When I'm with him, it feels unpredictable, like I'm free."

And how does Stefan make her feel? Well… "Lately, I feel like I'm a project, like I'm a problem that needs to be fixed," she replies. "I think I make him sad. … When he looks at me, all he sees is a broken toy." It gets worse. When Rebekah asks her if she’s still in love with Stefan, Elena replies with a simple, "No."

That’s enough to drive him to take up the Original on her offer to erase his memories of his ex-girlfriend. Too bad she reneges on the deal with a laugh because "it would far too easy. I refuse to make you forget her the way that Klaus made you forget me. But now [Elena] know how he really feels."

Meanwhile, Damon, who’s off training hunter Jeremy at the lake house, can’t stop listening to Elena’s voicemail ("I miss being near you. I wish you’d just let me come to you."). So when she calls to tell him she loves him, he can’t help smiling and breaking his command that she stay away from him.

"Get in your car. Right now. And come to me," he says. But as he warned her, he’s going to have to do some ugly things to get her that cure, which brings us to the rest of the episode:

– Klaus, unsatisfied with Jeremy’s progress, takes it upon himself to turn the cute pizza delivery girl into a vampire to help grow Jer’s mark. And he doesn’t stop there. He also claims several bar patrons and workers so the hunter can kill them. Elena’s little brother was under the impression that Damon was going to find another way to grow his mark that wouldn’t cost innocent lives. "[Klaus'] idea was better," replies the elder Salvatore.

– Rebekah wants the vampire cure, too, so she sends Kol to kidnap Shane and torture him until he tells them its location. When the professor reveals that he wants to free Silas, which will raise all the dead, Kol freaks out and stabs him. This Silas guy is bad news, apparently. Rebekah, however, thinks he’s just a myth and presses on with her plan, which gets a surprising assist from Stefan. He proposes that they partner up to get the cure, which will allow him to finally know how Elena truly feels.

– Bonnie’s protection spell to help Shane actually links him to April, who begins to suffer the same injuries as him. At episode’s end, the pastor’s daughter is seen telling Sheriff Forbes and the new mayor – Bonnie’s dad! – that Shane brainwashed her dad and the others into killing themselves. Meanwhile, the prof assures Bonnie that "expression" magic is not dark, but it has no limits. He promises not to let anything bad happen to her. (Except for whatever weird stuff he clearly already did to her brain, right?!)

Vampire Diaries fans, what did you think of the return episode and Elena’s confessional? What’s the deal with Shane and Silas? No, seriously, it’s time for some answers, show! And were you glad to see the Originals back in action?

Hollywood Life: Michelle Obama Debuts Edgy Bangs On New Twitter Account

Jan 18th 2013, 03:20

Not only did the First Lady celebrate her 49th birthday on Jan. 17, she also debuted a new Twitter account AND a dramatic new haircut! Are you loving or loathing her new bangs?

Jan. 17 was a big day for Michelle Obama. The First Lady celebrated her 49th birthday, but she was the one handing out gifts! She debuted a second new Twitter account, @FLOTUS — and she revealed an edgy new haircut in the process! In a photo alongside Inaugural citizen co-chair David Hall, Michelle flaunted a dramatic new set of thick, face-framing bangs.

The First Lady was meeting with David to discuss the National Day of Service on Jan. 19, which is an annual event held in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. that seeks for people all over the country to volunteer in their communities. Michelle recently spoke with Us Weekly about why she feels it’s so important to give back to where you came from.

“My parents taught me from an early age that all of us can find time to give back. And throughout my life, whenever I’ve volunteered, I leave feeling like I’m getting as much as I’m giving.”

Michelle Obama Attracted To Barack Because Of His Commitment To Service

It’s this passion for service that drew her to her husband, President Barack Obama. “When I was first getting to know Barack, one of the things that stood out was his commitment to serving others,” she said. “When we got married and started a family, we decided that we’d make service a central part of everything we do, and now we’re trying to pass that on to our girls [Malia, 14, and Sasha, 11], as well.”

Michelle’s Passion For Fashion

During the Obama family’s first four years in the White House, the world learned not only of Michelle’s dedication to service, but her passion for fashion, as well. With the 57th Presidential Inauguration coming up on Jan. 21, the First Lady has a big decision to make: Who will she wear?

Women’s Wear Daily says that she will most likely were one of eight lucky contenders: Michael Kors, Derek Lam, Naeem Kham, Marchesa, Prabal Gurung, Jason Wu (whose gown she wore at the last inauguration in 2009), Bibhu Mohapatra, and Thakoon Panichgul. We can’t wait to see what she she settles on!

What are your thoughts on Michelle’s new bangs? Love or loathe, HollywoodLifers?

Ladies and gentlemen, start your Kleenex.

Indeed, 12 seasons in, the giant onion that is American Idol hasn’t lost an ounce of potency. Sit with it long enough — breathe in its swelling strings and its harrowing backstories and its humble notion that, with the right melody, the misfits and outsiders and scrappers of the world can make like Kelly Clarkson and have their very own “moment like this” — and eventually, you’ll be succumbing to the urge to full-throttle ugly cry on your couch.

To put it another way: Nigel Lythgoe, 1; America’s tear ducts, 0.

It may have been edited for maximum audience manipulation, but it was impossible not to feel the heartstrings getting pulled like saltwater taffy as 21-year-old ice-cream scooper Lazaro Arbos talked about a severe stuttering problem that resulted in a childhood with too much heartache and not nearly enough friends. How he was nevertheless able to deliver a haunting, melodious rendition of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” is not for me to explain, and quite possibly a miracle. And whether or not Lazaro makes it past Hollywood Week is of no consequence. For 10 minutes on January 17, 2013, the kid was an American Idol. Congrats.

Better still, the Season 12 Chicago auditions gave us a good, long listen to a whopping 16 Golden Ticket recipients — with several legit potential winners in the mix. (They must’ve gotten good and inspired by an appearance from Season 10′s incredible Haley Reinhart.)

Anyhow, I’ll be back overnight to update this post with a full episode recap — bookmark, refresh, and enjoy! — but until then, let me turn things over to you. What did you think of the American Idol Season 12 Chicago tryouts? What did you think of the Nicki-Mariah bickering? And who was your favorite Golden Ticket recipient? As iconic ’80s philosopher Cyndi Lauper once opined, money changes everything. And that’s particularly true when the cash infusion in question is linked to a tragedy that resulted in two deaths, a leg amputation and the interruption of a legendary surgical career.

Yes, on this week’s Grey’s Anatomy, the survivors of last May’s plane crash won their lawsuit against Seattle Grace (a.k.a. their employer!) and pocketed a cool $15 million apiece. News of the windfall drew varying reactions from the gang. Callie was stoked. Everyone else was… less so.

Callie nonetheless managed to coax her fellow millionaires into going out for a celebratory dinner, a tense evening that found Mer (i.e. the only one not drinking champagne) forced to confirm that she’s with child.

Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson will check back into American Horror Story for Season 3.

Peters and Paulson, who both appeared in the original run and the current Asylum incarnation, join returning cast member Jessica Lange, who will also play a new character in the next season.

RELATED | Matt’s Inside Line: Get Scoop on American Horror Story and More

Executive producer Ryan Murphy announced the news at a press Q&A, adding that some other faces from the first year will return. Additionally, just as Season 2 had Bloody Face, Season 3 will have “a great icon — and it’s a woman,” he teased.

As for the setting of the next installment, Murphy said on Twitter that last night’s penultimate episode contained three clues. (TVLine’s best guess: The show is fixin’ to serve up some Southern-fried chills and thrills.)

Other Season 3 teases from Murphy:

- The storyline will consist of “something funnier” because he missed what Jessica Lange’s Constance brought to season one

- Jessica is returning partly because he promised her “complete hair and makeup and the best designer gowns ever” after she had to be so dressed down this season, he laughed. Her character is described as “a glamour cat leading lady”

- Season three is “more historical in nature” and has a “different tone” than season two. But, says Ryan, “That’s the joy of the show.”

- Season 3 will take place in modern-day, but just like past seasons, we will see different “time periods” and “there [will] also be different cities.” (It will be set in multiple cities.)

- In casting season three, Ryan says, “We want to have some new people come in and some old people come back.” The old people will be faces from season one that weren’t in season two. As for the new people, Jessica Lange pretty much has her pick. Ryan says he is looking to cast “actors Jessica wanted to work with.” She gave him names and he’s working to cast them.

- Evan in season two didn’t want to sob as much as he did in season one, which Ryan made happen. But, he joked, “Next year he’ll probably go back to playing a sobbing psychopath.”

- Of Sarah Paulson returning, Ryan said: “I know who Sarah Paulson’s playing… She does not” — with a laugh, of course.

Asylum ends its run on Jan. 23; the new 13-episode season will begin production this summer and bow in Fall 2013.

Hollywood Life: ‘Vampire Diaries’ Recap: Elena Tells Stefan How She Feels About Damon

Plus, Stefan forms a surprising new alliance! Things may never be the same in Mystic Falls.

If you see any typos in this recap, blame it on me doing my happy dance, celebrating the triumphant return of Rebekah (Claire Holt) to The Vampire Diaries. Not only did she have me LOL-ing through the entire Jan. 17 episode, but she also forced Elena (Nina Dobrev) to tell Stefan (Paul Wesley) how she really feels about Damon (Ian Somerhalder). It was awkward, and it was dark and it was phenomenal.

Her plan was simple, yet brilliant: Trap everyone in Mystic Falls High and compel them to bring her up to speed. She now knows all about the cure, the sire bond and the #Delena sex — and she decided to have a little fun with her newly acquired knowledge.

She point-blank made Elena tell Stefan exactly how she feels about Damon, and why he’s now her Salvatore of choice. A heartbroken Stefan had to sit there and listen to Elena tell him she’s not in love with him, and that being with Damon makes her feel “free.” (Elena’s exact quotes can be found in my weekly Delena/Stelena breakdown at the bottom of the recap.)

But the real tweet-worthy moment came at the end of the episode, when Elena poured her heart out to Damon over the phone. After telling him she loved him, he told her to get in the car and drive to him. It was hot.

Jeremy The Vampire Slayer

While everyone else was busy having their lives ruined by Rebekah’s mind games, Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) was stuck training with Damon and Matt (Zach Roerig) at the Gilbert cabin — and by “training,” I mean giving viewers a beautiful display of tank-topped glory. He and Matt may have gotten sweaty during sparring, but trust me, so did I.

Klaus (Joseph Morgan) showed up to inform the young Gilbert that he wasn’t killing vampires quickly enough — R.I.P., pizza bitch, you never saw it coming — so he gathered a few vampires of his own. Basically, Jeremy’s tattoo is about to get a whole lot bigger.

And fast.

Bonnie’s Daddy Issues

All the other girls on this show have had crippling issues with their fathers since day one, so I’m excited Bonnie (Kat Graham) finally gets to join the action! Her dad is now filling in as the interim mayor of Mystic Falls, yet somehow, that wasn’t her biggest source of drama this week.

No, her real drama was attached to Professor Eyebrows (Dave Alpay), who had a rough run-in with Rebekah and Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic). During their interrogation, Shane confessed to being the one who caused the council’s death, but once he raises Silas, Silas will in turn raise the dead. In fact, Shane said that everyone who died on Silas’ behalf would be brought back to life.

Crazy!

Bonnie did a protection spell to keep Shane safe, all the while unaware of his dark connections to Silas and the council. She also almost killed April (Grace Phipps) — who now knows about vampires, witches, and God knows what else — in the process, which was disappointing. I was hoping she’d full-on kill her. Maybe next week, right?

And now, for the weekly Delena/Stelena breakdown. Try to act surprised this time.

Depending on whom you ask, most members of the Fringe team have a lot to say — or at least hint at — when it comes to summing up the series finale airing Friday night. But if you ask Joshua Jackson, he boils it down to one word.

But more on that in a bit.

NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE | In describing his mission in crafting the Fox’s drama’s grand denouement, which airs as the second of two episodes starting at 8/7c, showrunner Joel Wyman evokes many words he has used before, saying, “At the end of the day I could only look and say, ‘I’m a huge fan of TV myself. What would I really want?’ And I came up with two criteria. The first was that I wanted things to be logical and make sense; I didn’t want to use any trickery like ‘another universe pops up.’ We’re past that, and more into the emotional journey of our characters.”

Second on his list, “I wanted to be able to get into a car the next day, if I was a fan, and say, ‘I can imagine where they are now.’” Wyman’s reasoning behind that is a personal one: “I don't like to say goodbye at all, as a person. It bothers me.”

‘CRAZY’ TALK! | How did his cast react to that very last script, for “An Enemy of Fate”? Anna Torv, at the time I spoke to her, had just made her first pass through the pages, and thus wasn’t quite ready to qualify it. “I don't know what to say about it yet,” she hedged. “I’ve read it, but I haven’t read it as ‘The Series Finale, Forever and Ever.’ I just read it and went, Whew, OK! This is a lot of work!’”

Jasika Nicole lets a bit more of the kid inside her show through as she reflects on the finale. “It is exhilarating, and frightening, because you don't know what’s going to happen until the very, very, very, very last moment — which is crazy!” she effused. “Just reading it, I was like, ‘Oh my god…. What’s…? OK…. How…?’ I felt like I’d taken this whirlwind of a ride. So seeing it [on screen], I can’t imagine what it’s going to be like. But visually, it’s going to be really insane — and really emotional.”

FROM 0 TO 100 | Fringe‘s series finale also happens to be its 100th episode, not the easiest of feat anymore in today’s TV landscape. “Anytime a series reaches the 100-episode milestone, it’s an extraordinary tribute to the show and an expression of a level of enthusiasm from the fans,” Warner Bros. TV president Peter Roth observes. Reflecting on the day in August 2007 when J.J. Abrams first pitched him the series, Roth says, “I was blown away. He has such an irrepressibly brilliant mind.”

Though Abrams withheld such blatantly sci-fi (read: scary to network execs!) tropes as the alternate universe concept, Roth instantly bought into what he saw as “a show about three brilliant people – including Peter and Walter Bishop, who had a dysfunctional relationship as father and son. And what all three of them [Olivia included] had in common was they were all brilliant. Each of them manifest their genius in different ways, and it was this Fringe event that brought them together.”

A FUTURE LEGACY | John Noble, who plays the aforementioned Walter, says that Wyman pulled off “a masterful job” with the finale,” adding: “I’m astounded by how good it is. I think it’s so fitting that he’s tied up five years of work into this package that is incredibly satisfying. It’s mind-blowingly good.”

Noble’s TV son, meanwhile, immediately grabs a singular word to sum up the swan song: “Correct. It’s correct,” he told us. “It’s just what it’s supposed to be.”

After “An Enemy of Fate” fades to lack and some time has passed, what might Fringe’s legacy be? For one, Roth offers, “These are amongst the most unforgettable characters that audiences will ever be exposed to.”

Also, he says, “The quality of the writing is what always distinguishes a great show as well — and in this case, the possibilities of science fact combined in a very authentic way with genre television is something I think distinguishes Fringe from all others.”

As you prepare for Fringe‘s farewell, flip through this slideshow of photos from the finale plus “revealing” pictures taken during my last, December visit to the set in Vancouver.
