“Of course, when you meet your father’s father, that brings up some of your father issues,” executive producer Jeremy Carver previously told TVLine. “In other words, what did your father’s father have to do with the way your father turned out? A lot of that is explored head-on.”
The show gave viewers a peek at Mary’s clan in Season 4′s “In the Beginning;” the upcoming episode will delve into the backstory of the Winchester lineage.

“It’s really fun and really emotional,” continued Carver. “It’s one of our family mythology episodes. When we get a chance to do one of these, we try to do it with great care because we’re essentially notching a part of the mythology into the stone, as it were. So we want to be careful with it. We want to make sure it fits all very nicely and also, frankly, in surprising ways that we didn’t realize. We’re very happy with it.”
