thumbnail Nashville Recap: 'I Told You I Don't Cry Pretty'
Feb 14th 2013, 03:59

Reality sets in for Rayna in this week’s Nashville, which she responds to with a little Liam-approved binge-drinking. Elsewhere, Juliette has trouble modulating her newly realized authority but Scarlett has no problem speaking her mind or standing her ground… until Gunnar’s sad backstory wears a felon-brother-sized hole in her resolve. Let’s review what when down in “There’ll Be No Teardrops Tonight.”

TWO-STEPPING AND TEARS | Rayna’s not doing so well since Teddy said he wants a divorce – and he twists the knife with a pre-concert call saying he wants to tell the girls the next day. It’s all a little much for the First Lady of Country Music, and she freezes onstage that night. No one in the crowd seems to notice, but Deacon notes that it’s the first time he’s ever seen her miss a musical cue. After a call from Tandy – who knows that Peggy is back in Teddy’s life but doesn’t share that info with her sister – Rayna’s just about done. Deacon notices she’s upset (but unfortunately does not try to fix things with his lips like he did last week). “I know when you’re fine. You’re not fine,” he says, and it’s statements like that that make me love him… despite the ridiculousness he starts at the end of the ep. He tells her when she’s ready to talk, he’s there.

But when she is ready, producer Liam is the one who helps Ray Ray through her rough patch. He just happens to be staying at the same hotel, and he accompanies her to a local honkytonk for booze and two-steppin’. They make nice about her firing him. She drinks too much. They flirt. Then they kiss outside his hotel room. It would’ve been easy (and cliché) to have Deacon stumble upon that moment; you get props, Nashville, for not making that happen. Instead, Rayna slips into Liam’s room for a nightcap and what I can only imagine – from the way he straddles her like she ponied up for the champagne-room special – he thinks will be his lucky night. But the bourbon and sadness are too much for Ms. Jaymes; she retires to the bathroom and has a classic drunk girl moment. Ladies, you know the steps – feel free to shout ‘em out with me:

1. Stare into the mirror and try to assess exactly how far gone you are.
2. Stare harder into the mirror and try to assess how far gone a casual observer would think you are.
3. Reapply lip gloss.
4. Think about all the terrible things in your life and how you’re likely to die alone, surrounded by cats.
5. Sob quietly into your palm.

When Liam tries to get in, she bodily stops him from opening the door (ha!), saying “It’s not pretty in here.” He eventually gains entrance, and… I think Rayna and I have wildly different definitions of “not pretty.” Her mascara is slightly smudged. That’s it. “I told you I don’t cry pretty,” she admonishes. Rayna, honey, I look more demolished when they’re all out of Kit-Kat bits at my favorite serve-yourself froyo place.

With the drunken “vacation” from her life over – without any more Liam nookie, I might add – they part as friends and kinda agree to finish the album they started together. But when Deacon sees them giving each other friendly hugs goodbye as Rayna gets ready to go home to Nashville, he immediately assumes the worst and won’t be swayed when Rayna tells him nothing happened. Then she goes home to deliver the bad news to Maddie and Daphne. But Maddie has bad news of her own for her mom: She heard Teddy talking to Peggy on the phone and surmised that they’re seeing each other.

BARNES IN CHARGE | Juliette has big plans for the back half of the tour; after the month-long break, her set is going to include more acoustic numbers and less glitter because she is a Serious Artist. “I am a multi-million dollar industry, and it is about time that I took control of it,” she asserts. Glenn’s not down with that and basically tells the crew to ignore her. We learn that Glenn discovered her in Alabama when she was auditioning for a TV show; with her boozy mom an unreliable guardian, he’s been a father figure in her life ever since. Except, as Deacon points out, “Fathers let their kids grow up.”

The Glenn-Juliette dynamic in this episode is interesting. Glenn’s not wrong – Juliette has made some terribly rash decisions in the recent past, to her detriment. But he’s being kind of a jerk about his concern. And Juliette’s not wrong, either – as the one bringing in the cash, she has every right to make the changes she wants. But she’s being kind of a brat about her “growth.” Like when Deacon intimates that Glenn is quietly undermining her, she responds by dragging everyone out of their rooms late at night to harangue them that she’s the boss and that if Glenn doesn’t get in line, “You’ll be right back at the country fair, looking for your next teen queen.” Ouch. Is it any wonder he quits? Deacon on the whole spectacle: “Is that part of your plan to be seen as a more mature artist?” (Ha!) As he rides down to the hotel lobby with Juliette, Uncle Deke reminds her that she’s being quite mean to the people she calls her “family.” She seems to take his words to heart. (Apparently, the man does his best work in elevators.)

Back in Nashville, Juliette seems at least a little contrite. After rattling around her big, empty house for a while, she calls Jolene and asks if she wants to move in upon her release from rehab the following week. Aw.

HE AIN’T HEAVY | Gunnar’s felon brother Jason is in town and wants to crash at Scarlett and Gunnar’s place. Scarlett correctly assumes that Jason is a felon, due to the fact he’s crossed state lines while on parole, and that him staying with them is “called harboring a fugitive.” She stands firm on her “nope”… until Jason sings and plays guitar with them. Then, taking into account Gunnar’s story about their crime-filled youth, she changes her mind and she tells Gunnar his bro can stay. But neither of them know about the gun he’s got at the bottom of his bag… In other news, Watty White calls to say that Rayna is interested in possibly signing them to her new label. In other other news, Gunnar is wearing only a towel when Watty calls. (That doesn’t have any bearing on the scene. I just thought you should know.)

SHORTSIGHTED | Avery’s mad at Dominic for taking the album in a different direction and for being generally absent. Avery’s mad at Marilyn for suggesting that he hold off on selling his publishing rights until he can get a lot more than what South Circle – and its pleasant emissary, Hailey – is offering. Avery’s mad that he’s living in a motel. But above all, Avery’s mad he isn’t a big deal yet, so he accepts Hailey’s offer and receives a check for $100,000. The move is likely to be a giant mistake, but at least it puts Gunnar’s ex and Avery into close contact, and I’ve missed seeing the spunky Chloe Bennet on my screen.

Now it’s your turn. After last week, were you sad we didn’t get more Rayna-Deacon smooching in this episode? How do you think Lamar will react when he finds out about Teddy and Peggy? And how much would you like to see Hailey and Avery hook up? Sound off in the comments!

Hollywood Life: Lady Gaga Forced To Cancel Tour Due To Severe Injury

Dec 5th 2001, 00:00

Lady Gaga has had to cancel the remaining dates on her Born This Way Ball tour on Feb. 13, after revealing that a severe hip injury will require surgery! What a bummer!

After postponing a handful of concert dates on Feb. 12, Lady Gaga had announced that the injury forcing her to push back her Born This Way Ball Tour will, in fact, sideline the entire show. On Feb. 13, the pop singer revealed that the remaining shows would have to be canceled and refunded as she must undergo an intense surgery to repair a tear of her right hip!

The 26-year-old singer’s rep told People magazine, “After additional tests this morning to review the severity of the issue, it has been determined that Lady Gaga has a labral tear of the right hip. She will need surgery to repair the problem, followed by strict down time to recover. This unfortunately, will force her to cancel the tour, so she can heal.”

Lady Gaga’s Facebook Apology

Mother Monster took to Facebook on the 12th, when news of injury was first released, to express her disappointment over letting her fans down. “I barely know what to say,” she wrote. “I’ve been hiding a show injury and chronic pain for some time now, [and] over the past month it has worsened. I’ve been praying it would heal. I hid it from my staff. I didn’t want to disappoint my amazing fans. However, after last night’s performance I could not walk and still can’t.”

She continued, “I hope you can forgive me, as it is nearly impossible for me to forgive myself. I’m devastated & sad. It will hopefully heal as soon as possible. I hate this. I hate this so much. I love you and I’m sorry.”

Refunds for the canceled performances will be made available at the point of purchase, beginning on Feb. 14.

Join us in wishing Lady Gaga a speedy recovery, HollywoodLifers!

Hollywood Life: ‘American Idol’: The Competition Get Heated During Group Rounds

Latest Hollywood Gossip, News & Celeb Pics
thumbnail 'American Idol': The Competition Get Heated During Group Rounds
Feb 14th 2013, 03:14

Hollywood week continues and this time it was up to the girls to impress the judges, while group rounds separated the wheat from the chaff.

There is nothing quite like listening to the dulcet tones of Ryan Seacrest on a Wednesday evening, and his narration of the Feb. 13 episode of American Idol was more lovely than some of the singing. The girls battled it out for those all important places, while group rounds brought out the worst in everyone, and there was more bitchiness in this one episode than in the entire film of Mean GirlsMariah CareyNicki MinajKeith Urban and Randy Jackson were back to make more tough decisions, and typically, they couldn’t agree on anything!

Hollywood Week: The Girls Sing

The girls’ individual rounds were rather uneventful, with veteran contestant Candice Glover being the only girl to really wow the judges.

“That’s the girl I’ve been waiting for!” Mariah exclaimed. More than half of the girls went through to group rounds, which are always exciting because this is where the shizz really hits the fan.

Group Rounds

No one said that being an American Idol was easy, and the judges were making it extra hard for the contestants, as they untraditionally picked the groups. Mariah lived up to her diva reputation by arriving wearing about a gazillion diamonds, while Randy dodged this round because he was in the studio. I’ve always said that Randy is a smart man.

The first group to perform was the Swagga’s, which contained Candice, Melinda and Denise. They sang Blu Cantrell‘s hit “Hit Em Up Style”, and they rocked it! Keith said “wow” several times after. And the girls all sailed through to the next round! Raisin Cane also went through with flying colors.

Other groups were less successful.

Only Deza made it through from her group, and her girls were pissed. Ssh girls, no one likes a Bitter Betty. A lot of groups only saw one girl go through, and a lot of groups only saw one girl go home.

Nicki was a total b-yotch when she told Janel and her group that she enjoyed them messing up the words. Janel cries, and for some bizarre reason, Keith sends all the girls through. One group butchered “American Boy” by Estelle, and the judges slammed them, resulting in Seretha being sent home.

Randy comes back for the second half of the group auditions, and I rescind my earlier statement.

There is only one rule at group week: don’t forget the words. And that is exactly what ALL the girls kept doing! However, talent prevailed over poor memory as judges like Keith and Randy vouched for certain girls who they refused to send home.

Crazy Kezban made major problems for her group: she failed to practice with them, she was late for their audition, oh, and she sang terribly. Why must “Be My Baby” be a song choice every year? It never ends well. However, once again the judges shocked me by loving their performance! At least Nicki acknowledged that Kezban is a “crazy physco.” The girls were then told they were the best group of the day! I am officially eating my hat.

And that was the end of show. Come back to HollywoodLife.com on Feb. 14 for more American Idol drama!

thumbnail American Idol Recap: Who Run the World? Girls!
Feb 14th 2013, 03:12

American Idol wants a female winner worse than Simon Cowell wants you to believe in the steroid-induced relevance of The X Factor: USA. It wants a female winner more desperately than Randy Jackson needs to repeat his fifth-grade vocabulary lessons. It wants a Kelly Clarkson-Fantasia Barrino-Carrie Underwood-Jordin Sparks “I Believe This Is My Moment in Heaven” moment with the burning intensity of Jennifer Lopez’s jealousy listening to the dulcet tones of Haley Reinhart. (File that last memory under: #YouAndI #NeverForget.)

Ryan Seacrest wasn’t bashful about pushing this agenda, either. “It’s clear Idol has never seen this much talent from the lay-dees,” he chirped, pronouncing the last word of that sentence like The Bachelor host Chris Harrison watching 25 mildly inebriated chicas exit rows of limousines in the hopes of snagging a marriage proposal from some blandly handsome lugnut.

Except in Idol‘s case, the stakes are so much higher. (Oh come on, let’s not pretend scoring a major-label recording contract and a platform on which to build a life-long career making music doesn’t trump a fake marriage proposal, a very public breakup on the cover of People magazine and a grotesque turn on Bachelor Pad.

Idol went so far tonight — during an episode devoted to the women of Season 12 tackling their Hollywood Week a capella solos and group performances — as to give us a couple of women so vocally exciting that they might be able to shrug off the weight of runaway hyperbole and excessive pimping to turn themselves into true fan favorites come the live voting rounds. Yep, I speak of Candice Glover (pictured) and Janelle Arthur, who appear to possess not only lethal instruments with which to cut down the competition, but the kinds of outsized-yet-sweet personas that speed-dialing crazies can get behind.

Anyhow, I’ll be back overnight to update this post with a full episode recap — bookmark, refresh, and enjoy! — but until then, let me turn things over to you. What did you think of the American Idol Season 12 Hollywood Week: Ladies’ Edition? Did you call “foul” at any of the judges’ decisions? And who was your favorite contestant? The NBC comedy pilot Joe, Joe and Jane has found its second Joe, as well as rounded out the supporting cast.

In the multi-cam project, written by Joe Port and Joe Weissman (The Office, Just Shoot Me), Will Greenberg ( a recent guest star on The Office) has been tapped to star as Joe Waxman, an author caught in an ongoing war between two needy, flawed people — his wife Jane (the previously cast Army Wives' Sally Pressman) and his ladies man co-author/BFF Joe Dougan (Brothers & Sisters‘ Dave Annable).

In addition to Greenberg’s casting, Lauren Lapkus (Are You There, Chelsea?) and Asif Ali have joined the pilot’s ensemble as Melissa and Matt.

Daily Show correspondent Larry Wilmore co-stars as Jane's recently divorced stepfather.

The project is based on the real life of Joe Wiseman and the complicated relationship between his manipulative wife Jane and his best friend Joe.

Hollywood Life: Lindsey Vonn Is Not ‘Freaked Out’ By Tiger Woods’ Cheating Past

Feb 14th 2013, 02:48

Though Lindsey continues to deny rumors that she’s dating Tiger, a new report claims that the Olympic skier isn’t bothered by the golfer’s adulterous past! Should she be?

Lindsey Vonn may deny rumors that she’s been dating Tiger Woods since November all she wants, but her recent use of his private jet after a scary skiing crash seems to prove otherwise. A new report claims that the two talk and text frequently, and that the Olympic skier, 28, isn’t “freaked out” by Tiger’s womanizing past!

“Tiger and Lindsey have been friends for a while, and nothing started out romantically at all,” a source tells People magazine. “But they really have a lot in common and got close and closer. He still refers to her as ‘my very good friend,’ but he’s been spending more and more time talking to her — and talking about her.”

Lindsey Vonn & Tiger Woods Talk A Lot

It turns out that Lindsey and Tiger, 37, talk and text frequently, according to the report. “Tiger really does want a woman who he can have good conversations with,” the insider says. “He wants shared interests and outlooks. He is finding that with [Lindsey.]

“She’s not freaked out by his past, and that’s really appealing to him. He really does deserve to be happy. He has been flogging himself for three years, and it’s good to see him moving forward.”

How Lindsey & Tiger Met

As previously reported, HollywoodLife.com spoke exclusively with a source close to Lindsey, who revealed how she and Tiger met. "They met through the ski community, because Tiger is an active skier," our insider said. "Lindsey has been teaching Tiger's kids Sam and Charlie how to ski."

Lindsey Denies She’s Dating Tiger

Lindsey hasn’t publicly admitted to the relationship, yet. Instead, she’s denied that it’s a romantic entanglement. "We are just friends," she told the Denver Post after winning her second World Cup downhill at Lake Louise, Alberta. "My brother was the ski instructor for his kids this November in Vail. Guessing that's where [the initial report] came from."

Do you think Lindsey and Tiger are dating, HollywoodLifers?

Hollywood Life: Controversial ‘Bachelor’ Castoff Tierra LiCausi Gets Engaged

thumbnail Controversial 'Bachelor' Castoff Tierra LiCausi Gets Engaged
Feb 14th 2013, 01:54

She may not have been given a rose by Sean on ‘The Bachelor’, but in the end, Tierra wound up getting engaged to the man of her dreams in the most romantic way. Keep reading for details!

Tierra LiCausi, who famously said “Men love me” before Sean Lowe booted her off this season of The Bachelor, is now ENGAGED and to the man she’s always wanted.

Tierra LiCausi Engaged

Speaking exclusively to Wetpaint Entertainment, Tierra's 29-year-old brother, Tyler, confirms the reality star’s engagement.

"Yes, she's really engaged," Tyler tells the website. "We're all really happy about it."

But what Tyler doesn’t reveal is the lucky gentleman’s name.

"I'm not sure he wants his name out there just yet.”

Tyler says, however, that the man is someone Tierra knew before she began filming the show, and once he found out that she was out of town filming, he pursued her vigorously.

Tierra LiCausi’s Fiancé: How He Pursued Her

"Unfortunately, they had a bad breakup," Tyler says. "When that happened, she moved back here to Denver and signed up to go on The Bachelor. Right after she left to film, though, he had a huge change of heart and wanted to get her back. The only problem was he couldn't reach her. Her phone was turned off. He kept trying and trying, but he couldn't get a hold of her. That's when he called my parents, who told him what she was doing.

"When he found out she was filming The Bachelor, he did everything he could to try to get to her. He even called ABC to find out where she was filming so he could fly there. He was literally on his way to St. Croix the day he finally reached her.”

Tierra & Her Fiancé — The Day They Reconnected

And in a bizarre twist of fate, Tyler says the day Sean sent her home from the show was the very day that Tierra and her mystery man reconnected their love.

“That was in November,” Tyler explains. “He proposed in January…they’re doing great.”

What a happy ending. Congrats, you two!

Sound off, HollywoodLifers — are you happy Tierra found love after Sean?

Hollywood Life: Harry Styles ‘Over’ Taylor Swift & Not Holding A Grudge Against Her

Feb 14th 2013, 01:17

Don’t expect a song about Taylor Swift on the next One Direction album as Harry Styles looks to be taking the high road after their failed relationship! Smart move!

Whatever side you take in the Harry Styles and Taylor Swift breakup, HollywoodLife.com has EXCLUSIVELY learned that Harry has moved on and is not looking to blame anyone over the failed relationship. We can all agree that it’s nice to see that Harry being smart and adult during an often awkward and trying time! Keep it up, Harry!

A source close to the One Direction star tells HollywoodLife.com, “He’s over Taylor, all breakups suck and he’s dealt with it and has moved on. He was sad at first but he is in a different place and not worrying about her anymore. He’s accepted the fact that it didn’t work out and he isn’t pointing fingers.”

Harry’s handling of the split is a far cry from what Taylor often does, which is write a scathing breakup song about any man who’s done her wrong. In what appears to be a much more mature approach, Harry has decided to move on, count his losses and seek love from another.

Harry Styles Talks About Love

In a recent interview with We Love Pop magazine, Harry opened up on his process when it comes to love, saying, “If it comes along, it comes along. Sometimes if I like someone, sometimes it doesn't work out and sometimes it does. If the right person was there, I'd go for it. I wouldn't stay single purposefully. I think for me, it's more infatuation at first sight. You can see someone and I think 'She's amazing.' I wouldn't say I could fall in love at first sight, but maybe I just haven't done that yet."

Well now that he has moved on from Taylor, hopefully he can find someone that can make his heart flutter. Best of luck, Harry — though, we’re sure you won’t have a problem in that department!

So HollywoodLifers, do you think that Harry is doing the right thing? Sound off below!

Hollywood Life: Taylor Swift’s Ex Conor Kennedy Arrested At White House

Latest Hollywood Gossip, News & Celeb Pics
thumbnail Taylor Swift's Ex Conor Kennedy Arrested At White House
Feb 14th 2013, 00:51

Conor was arrested in front of the White House on Feb. 13 for protesting against a proposed oil pipeline! Read on for all the details.

Conor Kennedy, the 17-year-old ex-boyfriend of Taylor Swift, was arrested on Feb. 13, alongside his father Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and actress Daryl Hannah, for protesting outside of the White House!

The trio were protesting against the proposed Keystone XL tar sands pipeline before they were hauled off in cuffs. According to a press release from the Sierra Club, “After being taken away from the White House in handcuffs, both Kennedys were driven to a Park Police station and released after paying a fine.”

Conor Kennedy’s Social Activism

The Kennedy family has always been socially active, with Conor and his father following in the tradition as activists with the Sierra Club.

“For the first time in the Sierra Club’s 120-year history, we have joined the ranks of visionaries of the past and present to engage in civil disobedience, knowing that the issue at hand is so critical, it compels the strongest defensible action,” Michael Brune, executive director of the environmental organization, said.

“We cannot afford to allow the production, transport, export and burning of the dirtiest oil on Earth via the Keystone XL pipeline. President Obama must deny the pipeline and take decisive steps to address climate disruption, the most significant issue of our time.”

Taylor Swift Writing About Conor Breakup? He’s Not Worried

Taylor, 23, often finds writing inspiration in her exes, but we suspect she’ll steer away from this topic. As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, Conor doesn’t expect his musical ex to write about him. “He is happy for her in whatever she does. The break was a healthy break with no drama, so he has no reason to be upset," our source said. "[Conor] isn't worrying about a song made about him and doesn't believe there is a song about him on her new album.”

Are you surprised that Conor was arrested, HollywoodLifers?
