All eyes — and ears — are on Chris after the release of new tracks from his upcoming album, X – some of which are rumored to be about his ex Rihanna. But in an EXCLUSIVE interview with HollywoodLife.com, Breezy reveals what’s really important to him right now.
Although it’s easy to get swept up in Chris Brown‘s infamous love triangle with Rihanna and Karrueche Tran, the singer is about more than just his love life. On June 20, Chris Brown teamed up his charity, Symphonic Love Foundation, with WE US: Walk Everywhere in Unity's Shoes to provide shoes to a thousand inner city, at-risk youths in Compton, Calif. HollywoodLife.com got the chance to talk to Chris at the event, and he opened up about his music and the importance of charity.
Chris Brown Interview — Breezy’s Focused On His Music, Not Love
The “Fine China” singer has recently released songs that sound like they could be about one — or both — of his exes, Rihanna or Karrueche Tran. While he didn’t confess that the songs are about either of them, he did tell us that neither woman is currently in the picture!
"[Fans have] seen me on and off again with different girls, you know who they are, but right now, as a 24-year-old man, I just choose to be single!" Chris said.
While Chris said he is “still good friends” with women from his past, he also admitted he’s not focused on a relationship right now.
“As far as that, it's just me and my focus on my music,” he said.
Along with his music, Chris will also be starring in the motion picture, Battle of the Year: The Dream Team, which will be out in September.
He told us he took part in the film, which is “a whole bunch of kids doing non-stop dancing,” because he wanted to “capture the essence of hip-hop.” We sure have a lot to look forward to from Chris!
Chris Brown Wants To ‘Try To Make Kids Ambitious’
Chris wants to focus on more than just music. At 24, Chris said he is now in his prime, and he wants to take advantage of the good he can do, rather than using his youth and booming career to get women.
“I don't want to be the guy 40-years-old, 50-years-old saying, 'Hey kids, listen to this,' because they're just not going to listen, it's just not going to be able to connect,” he said. “For kids my age or kids younger than me, if I'm doing something positive, they can be like, ‘Well, Chris came down here and did something good, so let me try to clean up my community or let me try to straighten up my act or get better grades.”
If that doesn’t prove Chris’ newfound feelings about making a difference, he also mentioned one of his non-musical goals.
“My ambitions are to try to make kids ambitious,” he said. “I was one of those kids who was brought up in gangs and had to be one of the ‘bad kids,’ so to speak, all the time when I was younger. Being able to see the look on kids' faces [when doing charity work] — it's just about lifting and bringing everybody together.”
Chris Brown On Trayvon Martin Verdict: I’m Familiar With Being Stereotyped
Chris, who wore a Trayvon Martin shirt to the WE US: Walk Everywhere in Unity's Shoes Project charity event, opened up to us about his thoughts on the case’s controversial verdict.
“Being stereotyped is something I'm familiar with,” he said. “As far as me and the whole world is concerned, it's about showing other people who just want to shoot a black kid just because they're scared: We're human too, we're kids. I want people to understand that it's all about giving back, being a role model.”
Chris was proud to serve as a role model at the event on June 20. He said that he hopes kids can learn from his efforts to promote positive forces for change, and he even offered advice for how to do that.
“Just keep your head up. For these young kids coming up, it's all about the choices they make. It's always going to be about the choices they make. They have to surround and be around a lot of people who are going to think positive. Everybody goes through different situations. Everybody struggles and everybody goes through their different problems, but it's how you face it and how you react,” he said.
It’s so great that Chris is making a difference! Do YOU think Chris is a good role model, HollywoodLifers?
