So sad! Mama June Shannon, the blunt head of the Honey Boo Boo household, has revealed that she is legally blind from childhood cataracts that were never properly treated.
Mama June Is Blind — Why Honey Boo Boo’s Mom Is Always Squinting
Now we know why Mama June is always squinting on Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. Unfortunately, Mama June’s vision problems can’t be fixed.
“She can’t have surgery because they believe it could do more harm than good,” a TLC spokesperson tells MailOnline. “The damage is that bad.”
How sad! If only she had been properly treated as a child.
Mama June Shannon Admits To Blurry Vision On ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’
Looking back over episodes of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, it’s obvious Mama June, 33, had problems with her eyesight — especially in a season two episode where the family goes go-karting for Mama June’s husband Sugar Bear‘s 41st birthday. In the episode, Mama June confesses she is afraid to drive a go-kart because of her poor eyesight. She even admitted that her blurry vision has prevented her from getting her driver’s license.
Mama June can also be seen squinting in several other episodes, including one in the first season where has trouble reading the numbers at Bingo, and another where she tries to save money by doing her daughter Alana‘s makeup for a beauty pageant.
The results were so bad, Alana said, “My mama better stick to couponing and stay away from the makeup table.”
