Plus, Clare Bowen teases a major reveal from Scarlett!

We are all kinds of excited about the return of ABC’s Nashville on Sept. 25 — particularly to find out what’s in store for fan-favorite couple Gunnar and Scarlett! Fans fell in love with them through their breathtaking duets, and the actors behind those beautiful voices, Sam Palladio and Clare Bowen, spoke with HollywoodLife.com about what’s next for their characters.

Sam Palladio Talks ‘Nashville’ Season 2

During the course of the first season, we all wondered whether Gunnar and Scarlett would ever act on their mind-blowing chemistry we saw in their duets. We were thrilled when they finally acknowledged their feelings — but Gunnar started to show off a darker side when his brother Jason died.

At the SELF Rocks the Summer party in New York City on July 16, Sam and Clare gave a special performance of “I Will Fall,” “If I Didn’t Know Better” and “When The Right One Comes Along.” Sam spoke with HollywoodLife.com about the “bad side” of Gunnar, and whether he’ll ever go back to being the golden boy:

It's always fun playing a bad side and I really enjoyed that character arc. It's difficult to say. I've only read the first episode of the new season. There's some redemption there but I think there's also some getting out of that dark place and dealing with a few problems.

Gunnar shocked us all when he proposed to Scarlett on the season finale, and although Sam couldn’t tell us how that turns out, he did discuss whether we can expect to see him join Scarlett on tour with Rayna (Connie Britton):

I think there's certainly a chance. I'm not quite sure how it will pan out once we find out what happens with the proposal. It will go one way or it will go the other.

Clare Bowen Reveals A New Side Of Scarlett

Scarlett serves as the moral center for many characters on the show — Gunnar, Deacon (Chip Esten) and Avery (Jonathan Jackson), especially — and Clare told us Scarlett will stay true to who she is in season two. Plus, she shared a few new reveals:

I think she is staying the way she is. She's got a lot of changing to do and I think there is a really big difference between strong and tough and Scarlett is definitely tough. She's got some stuff that you're going to find out about.

The only thing Clare said about the new season is: “Expect the unexpected.” If we know anything about Nashville, we know that they’ll drop twist after twist before our eyes.
