Hollywood week continues and this time it was up to the girls to impress the judges, while group rounds separated the wheat from the chaff.

There is nothing quite like listening to the dulcet tones of Ryan Seacrest on a Wednesday evening, and his narration of the Feb. 13 episode of American Idol was more lovely than some of the singing. The girls battled it out for those all important places, while group rounds brought out the worst in everyone, and there was more bitchiness in this one episode than in the entire film of Mean GirlsMariah CareyNicki MinajKeith Urban and Randy Jackson were back to make more tough decisions, and typically, they couldn’t agree on anything!

Hollywood Week: The Girls Sing

The girls’ individual rounds were rather uneventful, with veteran contestant Candice Glover being the only girl to really wow the judges.

“That’s the girl I’ve been waiting for!” Mariah exclaimed. More than half of the girls went through to group rounds, which are always exciting because this is where the shizz really hits the fan.

Group Rounds

No one said that being an American Idol was easy, and the judges were making it extra hard for the contestants, as they untraditionally picked the groups. Mariah lived up to her diva reputation by arriving wearing about a gazillion diamonds, while Randy dodged this round because he was in the studio. I’ve always said that Randy is a smart man.

The first group to perform was the Swagga’s, which contained Candice, Melinda and Denise. They sang Blu Cantrell‘s hit “Hit Em Up Style”, and they rocked it! Keith said “wow” several times after. And the girls all sailed through to the next round! Raisin Cane also went through with flying colors.

Other groups were less successful.

Only Deza made it through from her group, and her girls were pissed. Ssh girls, no one likes a Bitter Betty. A lot of groups only saw one girl go through, and a lot of groups only saw one girl go home.

Nicki was a total b-yotch when she told Janel and her group that she enjoyed them messing up the words. Janel cries, and for some bizarre reason, Keith sends all the girls through. One group butchered “American Boy” by Estelle, and the judges slammed them, resulting in Seretha being sent home.

Randy comes back for the second half of the group auditions, and I rescind my earlier statement.

There is only one rule at group week: don’t forget the words. And that is exactly what ALL the girls kept doing! However, talent prevailed over poor memory as judges like Keith and Randy vouched for certain girls who they refused to send home.

Crazy Kezban made major problems for her group: she failed to practice with them, she was late for their audition, oh, and she sang terribly. Why must “Be My Baby” be a song choice every year? It never ends well. However, once again the judges shocked me by loving their performance! At least Nicki acknowledged that Kezban is a “crazy physco.” The girls were then told they were the best group of the day! I am officially eating my hat.

And that was the end of show. Come back to HollywoodLife.com on Feb. 14 for more American Idol drama!

What do YOU think HollywoodLifers? Do YOU think the right girls went through?
