Plus, could Rebekah want the vampire cure for herself? Claire gives HollywoodLife.com her take on the Original’s struggle for humanity.
She’s baaaack! Barbie Klaus herself, Claire Holt, returns to The Vampire Diaries on Jan. 17 — and she’s out for blood. “She felt very betrayed when she was daggered… again,” Claire tells HollywoodLife.com. ”I can’t even count the number of times she’s been daggered on the show. She’s definitely going to want revenge.”
But Rebekah’s return won’t be all about fangs and fury. Claire says her undead alter ego has much bigger dreams than the ones she’s willing to vocalize.
“I think she’s really starting to realize that she wants a human life,” Claire admits. “She wants love, she wants to feel normal. I think the way she behaves has been lending itself to that.”
And brace yourself; there’s even a chance Rebekah will want to get the vampire cure for herself!
“She doesn’t really know what she wants,” Claire explains. “She just wants to find it. For all the characters, there’s going to be that inner turmoil: Do I want to take it? Do I want to stay a vampire? It’s going to be hard for her to figure out what she wants.”
Rebekah’s Future With Stefan — And Matt?
Sadly, Rebekah was out of commission during Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) breakup, and something tells me she’ll be very interested to learn about it now that she’s back in action.
“There’s definitely going to be a change in their relationship,” Claire says of Rebekah and Stefan. “It’s going to evolve. Rebekah’s goal is to find the cure, so whatever happens with Stefan, it’s going to be less about her feelings and more about the cure — but there’s definitely going to be a change.
But for those fans — myself included — hoping to see the sparks between Rebekah and Matt (Zach Roerig) ignite a full-on flame, Claire’s got some bad news. Basically, don’t hold your breath.
“I think she’s done enough damage to that one,” Claire admits. “I don’t know if that’s going to pan out, but I’m definitely a Rebekah-Matt fan, as well.”
Will Rebekah Appear On ‘The Originals?’
With The Vampire Diaries‘ spin-off The Originals in the works, everyone wants to know which Mikaelson siblings will make the leap to the new show — including Claire!
“Well, it’s called The Originals and she is an Original, but we haven’t seen a script yet,” Claire says. “I think that’s maybe more of a question for Julie Plec. … It’s not up to me, really, so we’ll have to wait and see where Rebekah goes. But I love Joseph and Phoebe, they’re so great to work with.
(For the record, Julie recently told Entertainment Weekly that Claire/Rebekah “would be a tremendous asset to both shows,” so there’s hope!)
What’s your take on Rebekah’s return to the ‘living?’ Do you think she’ll try to get the cure for herself? Would you like to see her and Stefan rekindle their old flame? And should she stay on The Vampire Diaries, move over to The Originals, or pull double duty? Drop me a comment with your thoughts!
