The shootout between Chris Dorner and police in Big Bear, CA. on Feb. 12 has sadly claimed its first victim as one of the wounded police officers has died. Such a tragedy.
As the San Bernardino County Sheriff Department cornered alleged cop killer Chris Dorner in a Big Bear, CA cabin on Feb. 12, a shootout straight out of a Hollywood movie ensued. In the firefight, two officers were injured and had to be airlifted from the scene and to the Loma Linda Hospital. One of the two officers has, sadly, succumbed to his wounds.
Jimmy Orr with the L.A. Times reported, via Twitter, that one of the deputies injured had died. He wrote, “BREAKING: 1 San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputy died of wounds suffered during shootout with Christopher #Dorner.”
An hour before the announcement of the death, at 3:00pm PST, a commander with the LAPD had confirmed that the two officers had been injured, with the L.A. Times reporting that one had been shot by Chris from the cabin, while the second was hit when Chris briefly ran out of his makeshift hiding place.
With Chris barricaded in the cabin, LAPD Commander Smith reportedly issued the following plea, “Enough is enough. It’s time to turn yourself in.” A scheduled news conference at Loma Linda Hospital was postponed after the officer’s passing, with the spokesman calling this a “sad day.”
The manhunt for Chris had been going on for more than a week, with many were worried that he would escape over the border into Mexico. There was a $1 million dollar reward for his capture, which led to thousands of people sending in tips. Even a Lowes hardware store was evacuated after a sighting of Chris on the premises.
Our thoughts remain with all the families and friends suffering from loss due to Chris’ vigilante-esque rampage across Los Angeles.
