Now that the “girl” part of Girl Meets World has been figured out — Rowan Blanchard, 11, will be playing Riley Matthews — it’s time to focus on the other missing component of the Matthews family: Riley’s brother! Danielle Fishel chatted with OK! about the hunt for Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga’s son, as well as some of the other key characters for the Boy Meets World spin-off.
She revealed, “We’re still in the casting process, trying to find the boys of the show: our son, the crush for our daughter, and one other character I think is going to be really exciting.”
And even though Danielle and Rowan have yet to formally act opposite one another — Danielle recently revealed the pilot will be filmed sometime in February — she’s already feeling super maternal towards her on-screen daughter.
“How freaking adorable is she?” Danielle squeed. “I want to gobble her up and hug her and kiss her and protect her and be her mother.”
She even thinks Rowan is the perfect blend of her and Ben, a real-life Cory/Topanga hybrid.
“[Rowan] has long, very thick hair,” Danielle noted. “I really do think she looks like a really good combination of the two of us. She has Ben’s skin tone, Ben’s eyes and my hair. I think she’s truly adorable, and even more adorable when you see her in action.”
And then there’s Maya, played by Sabrina Carpenter, who will serve as the proverbial devil on Riley’s shoulder.
“She’s also wonderful, and a very sweet girl,” Danielle said. “She has a biting wit and a very quick sense of humor. Her character is the closest to the Shawn character. She thinks she’s got it all figured out.”
