Whether it was Miley Cyrus calling Liam Hemsworth her “hubby” and saying “we’re married” or Tiger Woods pretending to be a faithful husband (good one, Tiger), celebs can really throw us for a loop. Here are the ones that made us laugh and the ones that just made us scratch our heads.
The Little Liars: Miley Cyrus & Britney Spears
Miley and Britney Spears are guilty of misleading us about certain personal details, but we could more or less smell the phoniness right away. In Miley’s case, calling Liam “hubby” in Cosmopolitan totally gave the impression that they got hitched. But we knew Miley too well to take it in without any skepticism.
Meanwhile, Britney’s insistence on her pure innocence sort of just made the whole world chuckle.
Big Fat Liars: Snooki, Lance Armstrong & Whitney Houston
Come on, Snooks — why did you have to go and say your weren’t pregnant when you so were!? “I think it is an insult to be called pregnant,” Snooki told Good Morning America. It isn’t an insult if it’s true though!
The next offenders – Lance Armstrong and Whitney Houston — made up lies about taking drugs. We all remember Whitney’s “crack is whack” denial to Diane Sawyer. She wasn’t fooling anyone. More recently, Lance FINALLY admitted what everyone had been saying about him — that he had taken steroids and had been lying about for over a decade. You can bike, but you can’t hide from your web of deceit, Lance!
When Lying Gets Weird: Justin Bieber & Manti Te’o
The tale of Justin Bieber’s laptop is a strange one, even though it’s been over a year since it happened. The Biebs’ claimed computer theft turned out to be a very elaborate PR stunt to juice up the release of his music video for “Beauty and a Beat” with Nicki Minaj. This was pretty clever — but all that fake Twitter beef and fake nude picture stuff? You gotta admit that’s pretty odd, Justin.
But nothing is as wild as the Manti Te’o girlfriend hoax. Did Manti make up the story to gain popularity? Was he a victim of a complex social media charade? How long did it take before he realized his “girlfriend” was a grown man in front of a computer screen? The real truth in this story may never be revealed.
