If Lil Wayne did drink the toxic concoction that reports are alleging, then he’s lucky to be alive. Keep reading for an expert’s EXCLUSIVE explanation why.

The dangerous mixture that Lil Wayne allegedly drank “should have killed him,” Dr. Phil Dembo tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively.

Sizzurp: A ‘Poisonous Mixture’

“It’s like drinking poison,” Dr. Dembo continues. The doctor explains that Wayne’s alleged mixture of codeine and promethazine is extremely lethal, especially when mixed with alcohol. “A person can overdose on this poisonous mixture,” he says. The “bootleg” syrup that Lil Wayne reportedly consumed dangerously “increases heart rate and causes liver damage.”

Taking “anything not truly prescribed” is highly hazardous, Dr. Dembo explains, and also adds that “a mixture of substances in order for a high is a dangerous way to party.”

Bootleg, or sizzurp, is highly addictive, as the body begins to need the painkilling drugs that are the main ingredients of the drink.

Lil Wayne’s Long History Of Drug Use

Lil Wayne personally has a long history with the cough syrup-laced concoction. Frequently doing interviews with a styrofoam cup widely suspected to contain the drink, Wayne has also referred to drinking the concoction in his music — “Weed and syrup til I die” is a line of his on the song “Duffle Bag Boy.”

And in an interview with MTV in 2008, Lil Wayne talked about how hard it is to quit taking sizzurp, though he didn’t address the drug by name. When he was asked about rapper Bun B calling sizzurp-use in the hip-hop community an epidemic, Wayne said, ”Everyone wants me to stop all this and all that,” he said. “It ain’t that easy.”

He continued: ”It ain’t that easy — feels like death in your stomach when you stop doing that s**t. You gotta learn how to stop, you gotta go through detox. You gotta do all kinds of stuff. Like I said, I’m selfish. I feel like everything I do is successful and productive. It’s gonna be hard to tell me I’m slipping.”

Perhaps this brush with death will be enough to convince him to quit, change his ways, and save his life.
