The 40-year-old star admits that she used to push herself way too hard when she was younger. Now she candidly speaks about the major life changes, (including her diet!), that help her stay happy, healthy and fit!
The recently-turned-40 actress, Gwyneth Paltrow, looks so eye-catching in a vibrant summer frock on the April 2013 cover of SELF. The pleated piece shows off the Iron Man 3 star’s toned bod, which is the hot result of her new diet and overall lifestyle. After a sudden spiral downward, Gwyn immediately made some total changes to get back some of her positive vibes.
After being constantly on the move in terms of performing and traveling she would calm herself down by indulging in various meds, wine, and too much exercise — but the star tells the mag she suffered a major panic attack. "I had to sing at awards shows, which was fun but stressful. I'd have a Guinness and a beta-blocker every time. I also was constantly getting on airplanes, trying to knock myself out with sleeping pills and wine, waking up, trying to sweat it out with exercise and a steam, and then working really hard all day. Eventually, I had a panic attack. My body was like, 'What is happening?'"
She looked at the incident as an inspiration for her second cookbook, It’s All Good. Furthermore, her doctor suggested that she cut dairy, sugar, gluten, and basically anything processed out of her diet. The star admits that her primary reaction was, “What the f- am I going to eat now?”
Since her realization of having to cut back, she follows this strict diet two or three times a year for about three weeks at a time. “Past that, I’m not willing to make the sacrifice. Life is about balance,” she explains. However, she has realized an internal change in herself. Where she used to feel a major amount of unexpressed anger, she now feels that her emotions run much smoother. Her new focus has also changed her overall attitude. “Sometimes when you get clear about who you are, others get less comfortable because they liked who you were. It's changed my marriage [to Chris Martin, 36], too, but he's up for the challenge,” says Gwyn.
SHh feels that as a 40-year-old, she is way less threatening and now sees that the overall goal is to “find your truth. Be honest about what you feel and don’t be afraid to articulate it.” A few other words of advice? “Never cut out the brownies or wine.” We’ll keep that in mind, Gwyn!
