The driver accused of killing a Brooklyn couple on March 3, after the BMW he was allegedly driving struck a cab taking the couple the hospital, finally turned himself in to New York City police on March 6. Read on for more details.
Julio Acevedo, 44, finally turned himself in on March 6 after being wanted by police as the driver in the tragic hit-and-run accident in Williamsburg, Brooklyn that killed Orhodox Jewish couple Raizy and Nathan Glauber, both 21, and their newborn baby that was delivered alive at the scene — but died one day later.
Julio was arrested outside of a Pennsylvania convenience store after approaching police officers. He is being held without bail on charges for leaving the scene of an accident, according to a spokesperson for the New York City Police Department.
Police said Julio was the person driving the BMW that slammed into the cab carrying Raizy and Nathan on March 3 while they were on their way to the hospital. Raizy was seven months pregnant, and even though the couple died, the baby was delivered alive. Tragically, the baby died the next day.
Julio Acevedo Worked With Friend Derreck Hamilton To Surrender
Julio’s friend Derrick Hamilton worked with NYPD Fugitive Apprehension Team to arrange for the accused driver’s arrest at a Turkey Hill Mini Market in Bethlehem, Pa. shortly after 5 p.m., according to the Daily Mail. Derrick met with police at Grand Central Station in New York on March 6, and led them to where Julio was in Pennsylvania.
Along with being charged with fleeing the scene of an accident, Julio could be charged with manslaughter. Julio had spoken to WABC-TV New York over the phone, and said he wanted to turn himself in — but he was scared.
Luckily, he finally did the right thing and will now face the consequences. What do YOU think of Julio turning himself in HollyMoms?
