Miley’s world looks to be crumbling around her, but she isn’t commenting — or is she? On Mar. 8 she cryptically tweeted a quote from musician Jeff Buckley. What does it all mean? Keep reading to find out!

On Mar. 8, Miley Cyrus seemed to either be avoiding the rumors that she and fiance Liam Hemsworth were on the rocks, or vaguely referring to them with suspicious song lyrics.

Miley Cyrus Quotes Jeff Buckley

Taking a page out of iconic singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley’s book, Miley tweeted, “‘Your soul can fly outward stringed to your ribcage like a shimmering kite in the shape of an open hand.’ – JEFF BUCKLEY”

The quote is surprisingly not song lyrics — it is from an interview that Jeff gave in the early nineties. It is actually one of his more well-known lines.

These words may seem overly existential and symbolic and just downright confusing, but by figuring out the quote’s meaning we can figure out why Miley tweeted it.

Jeff is basically speaking about looking inward to gain deeper meaning for the outside world. By looking into your soul, you can “fly outward” and figure out what it’s all about. If that makes sense!

Miley Cyrus’ Jeff Buckley Tweet: What Does It Mean?

When Jeff said the quote he was referring to musicianship and what he deemed to be an epidemic of musicians playing without “any heart.” So, Miley’s tweet can mean one of two things.

The more satisfying answer: Miley may be repurposing the Jeff Buckley quote for her life. As we know, she is going through an enormous amount of turmoil. She may be asking herself what it’s all about or why her life is falling apart, and is taking solace in Jeff’s theory that outward meaning can be attained by looking inward. Perhaps Miley is doing a lot of inward meditation now that her wedding has been called off?

But there’s a less sensational conclusion. We know that Miley is currently in the studio working on her fourth album, so it’s entirely possible that she quoted Jeff Buckley within its actual context. She too, might be referring to her songwriting and is identifying with Jeff’s deep thoughts on musicianship.

What’s not up for debate is that Miley is deep in thought. And she’s definitely looking inward. Is she trying to find meaning in her breakup with Liam, or is she just thinking deeply about her album?
