It was a big movie event on May 26, as the much anticipated Liberace biopic finally premiered on HBO. We weren’t the only ones heating up popcorn and taking in the glitz, glamour, and Rob Lowe’s face — tons of celebs took to Twitter to share their reactions too!

Who knew an over-the-top drama about flamboyant entertainer Liberace would drum up such a huge response? The HBO biopic Behind The Candelabra, starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon as lovers, was such a decadent, racy, dramatic affair that even the stars felt compelled to voice their reactions on Twitter.

Cher & More: Stars Stunned By ‘Behind The Candelabra’

The iconic musician Cher, who for some reason we don’t have much trouble relating to Liberace, tweeted, “Watched Behind The Candelabra. At end I felt tears streaming down my cheeks. It was tiny bit slow, but it showed Unvarnished Human Frailty.”

Entourage actress Debi Mazar was obviously excited for the movie: “Abt to watch now! Kids go to bed already!! wanna see film,” she tweeted in response to a friend who had written, “this Liberace thing is BEYOND. The plastic surgery scene is killing me.”

True Blood actress Tara Buck seemed to be as horrified/entranced by Rob Lowe’s character as we were: “Behind The Candelabra — once again @HBO delivers a moving, beautifully human and timely film. Bravo,” she first tweeted and then had to add, “And Rob Lowe, you really freaked me the hell out. #Liberace.”

And then there were the jokesters, who had some fun with the cable event. Comedian Patton Oswalt basically live-tweeted the entire movie. Our favorites from him: “Oh goddamit, this ending is genuinely making me cry. What the f*** is happening?” and “Also, you can easily see what’s behind a candelabra just by looking at it straight on.”

Finally, Jeopardy champion Ken Jennings likely spoke for millions with his nerd-centric tweet: “No Game of Thrones tonight so I’m pretending the Liberace movie is a super-long Renly/Loras flashback.” That’s actually hilarious.

What about you, HollywoodLifers? Did you watch Behind The Candelabra? What did you think?
