After both Shakira and Usher’s teams were left with only one contestant each, everyone was fighting for their spot on ‘The Voice.’

On May 27, The Voice was full of amazing performances; even though it was the Memorial Day holiday, these contestants didn’t take a break! The top eight took the stage and demonstrated that the competition is only going to get more intense.

Team Adam Brings Down The House

Adam Levine is one of two judges who still has three singers on their team!

His team kicked off the night of solid top 8 performances. First up was Judith Hill who sang #thatPOWER by will.i.am featuring Justin Bieber. This song was radically different from what she has done before and it was a defining moment for this soul sister. Adam shared his skepticism of the song choice but thought she started off the night strong. Shakira lauded the singer’s risk and thought she did an incredible job.

Next was Sarah Simmons who took on Gotye‘s “Somebody That I Used To Know.” Adam warned her that she would need to break down walls of emotion and be vulnerable to the audience and that she did. She sent shivers up the spine of listeners as she brought the angst and power the song called for. Usher loved her restraint during the song and Blake was amazed at her ability to showcase her soft yet raspy voice.

Adam’s last singer was Amber Carrington, who brought down the house in the last performance of the night, by singing Adeles “Skyfall.” It’s always tough to take on an Adele song but Amber showed undeniable range and her performance was phenomenal. Shakira agreed that Adele’s songs are tough to take on but this song suited Amber’s voice. Blake was sold by her performance and said she “took the diva powerhouse vocal of the night.”

Usher’s Last Talent Gives It His All

Usher may only have one contestant left on his team, but that doesn’t mean she couldn’t take it all. He stood by his last team member by donning her unique glasses for the duration of the show which caused host Carson Daly to crack a joke about Usher looking like Steve Urkel. After a few laughs, Usher retaliated by saying Carson looked like Jimmy Neutron. It was a great pop culture moment for all.

Michelle Chamuel brought her A-game when performing “Grenade” by Bruno Mars. The judges praised the singer as a force to be reckoned with. Adam said she sucked him in right from the beginning and was one of the best of the night. Blake was just baffled how such a “big voice could come out of such a little human being.”

Shakira Fights For Sasha

For team Shakira, it’s all about Sasha Allen. Sasha had added pressure as she took on “Without You” by David Guetta featuring Usher. However, Sasha proved she could take the heat as she wow’d us with her soulful rendition. For Adam, the incredible performance was bittersweet because Sasha was at one point on Team Adam and he is kicking himself for not keeping her. The toughest critic for this song, Usher himself, thought Sasha’s rendition was incredible.

Blake’s Country Team Brings Powerhouse Performances

Blake Shelton has a team full of country talent.

First up was Holly Tucker who sang “Done” by The Band Perry. In bedazzled cowboy boots, Holly rocked out to this hit country song. All the judges loved the sassy performance and Blake added that the song was “begging for mercy” by the end.

Next was the country crooner duo, The Swon Brothers. The brothers sang “Seven Bridges Road” by The Eagles. It was a delicate night for the brothers whose hearts are with their family in Oklahoma, which was hit by deadly tornadoes just last week. They were also worried that if they couldn’t get their harmonies together, they could be the one’s going home. Singing by a campfire, the brothers were able to conquer their fears and their harmonies synced together beautifully. Shakira thought the song suited their voices and Adam thought the performance was great except for a few minor moments.

Last up for Team Blake was his youngest contestant, Danielle Bradbery. Danielle sang “Grandpa” by The Judds and proved she is still the one to beat. The adorable All-American girl belted out the song and easily won the approval of the judges. Usher called her a “prodigy” and Adam claimed that she is an “incredible country music artist just waiting to be born.”
