Floyd breezed by Robert Guerrero in the welterweight title match on May 4. Perhaps his confidence was at all-time high due to a show-stopping intro by Lil Wayne?
Lil Wayne made sure that the whole crowd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 4 knew that Floyd Mayweather Jr. was not nervous about his bout with Robert Guerrero. As the 36-year-old boxer made his way to the ring, Weezy was by his side singing his song “No Worries.” How’s that for intimidation!
Lil Wayne Propels Floyd Mayweather Jr. To Victory
The crowd went nuts for Lil Wayne and Floyd, and Robert — who was already the underdog — must have really felt like he was fighting uphill. With that kind of star power and bravado behind him, it’s no wonder that Floyd was able to win the match. Wayne convinced him that he had nothing to worry about!
Fans who were looking for a drama-filled match went home somewhat disappointed, as Floyd coasted to victory. Though Floyd wasn’t able to knock out Robert, he won in a landslide decision after 12 hard-fought rounds.
Robert looked a step slow the whole night and Floyd basically toyed with him — you could tell he wasn’t exerting all of his energy. The guy has a ton of swagger, and with a record of 44-0 and superstar friends like Weezy, who can blame him?
Floyd Mayweather Jr. Close To Retiring
We’re interested to see if Lil Wayne will accompany Floyd again as he begins to wind down his career. The boxer has announced that he will only fight in five more matches before retiring. “I’ve got five more fights and I’m through with the sport,” Floyd told USA Today.
It’s likely that his next fight will be in September — we wonder what song Lil Wayne will bust out for that match!
