How terrible! Years prior to the rescue of the three kidnapped Ohio women, several neighbors alerted officials of suspicious happenings at the kidnapper’s home, but police didn’t take the reports seriously. One of the neighbors saw three naked women being led on leashes around Ariel’s backyard, and police never even responded to the call!

Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight vanished approximately ten years ago, and were miraculously found alive in a Cleveland, Ohio home near where they grew up on May 6. Before the three women escaped from their alleged kidnapper, Ariel Castro, his neighbors reported several unusual things at Ariel’s house, and police missed the opportunity to save the women because they either didn’t enter the house when they arrived or never even showed up.

In November 2011, Israel Lugo, who lives two houses down from Ariel, said he heard pounding on the doors of the house. He also added that the house had plastic bags on the windows. When police arrived, they only knocked on Ariel’s door, and left when no one answered. “They walked to the side of the house and then left,” Israel told USA Today.

Nina Samoylicz, another neighbor, told police she saw a naked woman in Ariel’s backyard two years ago, but authorities didn’t take the report seriously. “We thought it was funny at first, and then we thought that was weird so we called the cops.” Nina explained to CNN. “They thought we was playing, joking, they didn’t believe us.”

Cleveland police officials claim that the police department has no record of either of the reports involving the accused kidnapper’s home.

A woman in a nearby apartment building also called police to report that she saw three young naked women crawling on the ground with leashes around their necks, and that three men were controlling them in Ariel’s backyard. Police never responded to the woman’s call.

Authorities also visited the home in 2004 as part of a child services investigation involving a child that Ariel, a bus driver, had left at a bus depot. Police left when no one answered the door.
