'American Idol': The Judges Made A Mistake By Keeping Zoanette Johnson Feb 28th 2013, 18:59 Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey and Keith Urban all made a mistake by putting Zoanette Johnson through to the top 20 on ‘American Idol.’ Find out why I think she should have been eliminated on Feb. 27. Zoanette Johnson was named as one of the Top 20 contestants on season 12 of American Idol on Feb. 27. After a rousing rendition of Elton John’s ”Circle Of Life,” which brought Nicki Minaj to tears, Zoanette was pushed through to the next round of the compeition. Sadly, other season favorites went home in her place. I’d like to describe Zoanette’s performance as both crazy and awful. Sure, she has a decent voice, but her flamboy-ish antics should not be what drives her in a singing competition. Let’s not forget that Jennifer Hudson slayed the same song during season 3, and her performance puts Zoanette’s to shame. In fact, if you re-watch Jennifer’s performance, you may wonder how Zoanette even made it through based on her rendition. It comes across as a bit comical. Sadly, Zoanette’s place in the top 20 potentially halted Melinda Ademi, Juliana Chahayed and Rachel Hale from receiving a final place in the Top 10 girls. Was I the only one who LOVED Juliana’s rendition of Demi Lovato’s “Skyscraper?” It was stripped down, slow and sounded a lot like Taylor Swift! She’s the complete package. Plus, Melinda has such an original voice. She sang Jessie J’s “Nobody’s Perfect,” but Nicki immediately knocked it down, saying she shouldn’t have performed a song that another contestant did the week before. Personally, I feel like these girls were a LOT better than Zoanette, but again, it’s not the public’s turn to vote yet. It’s a shame, because some really talented singer went home on Feb. 27.
