The charred body found in the burned-out cabin in Big Bear, CA have been positively identified on Feb. 14 as Chris, whom police had pursued in a violent manhunt two days earlier. Read on for all the details.

After the statewide manhunt for former LAPD officer and accused cop killer Chris Dorner came to its bizarre end with a shoot-out and standoff at a cabin in Big Bear, CA on Feb. 12, in which the cabin erupted into flames after Chris had barricaded himself inside, medical examiners have positively identified the wanted man’s body amongst the charred remains.

On Feb. 14, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announced that the body had been positively ID’d through dental records during an autopsy, CNN reports. The charred remains had been found in the burned-out cabin late on Feb. 12, once it was safe enough for authorities to search the wreckage.

Chris Dorner: The Manhunt For Accused Cop Killer

Chris had been wanted by police for nearly two weeks, after he began seeking “vengeance” for what he considered a wrongful termination from the force. He had been accused of killing three people, including one cop, and wounding several others. During the firefight on Feb. 12, two cops were wounded, with one succumbing to his wounds.

He had been chased throughout Big Bear on the 12th in a manhunt that shut down the mountain, closing all roads in and out, and included helicopters and deadly gunfire. Once Chris barricaded himself in the cabin, authorities had prepared to enter, with police officers breaking down doors, breaking the windows, and firing off tear gas inside.

Chris Dorner Cabin Fire: How It Started

San Bernardino Sheriff John McMahon told reporters on Feb. 13 that the cabin caught fire once the tear gas canisters were shot inside. The canisters included pyrotechnic tear gas, which generates heat, but the sheriff says, “We did not intentionally burn down that cabin to get Mr. Dorner out.”

Are you glad that this nightmare is finally over, HollywoodLifers?
