Adam Barrington, 29, and his pregnant wife Heather, 27, are planning to have their first child in a very ‘different’ environment — they want their child born amongst dolphins. But experts warn that’s a dangerous idea — do YOU agree?
A couple from North Carolina has traveled to Hawaii to have their child in a dolphin-assisted birth. However, experts say this may not be the greatest or safest environment to welcome a newborn.
Couple Plans Dolphin-Assisted Birth
Adam Barrowman, 29, and wife Heather , 27, traveled 4,500 miles to Hawaii to have their first child in a dolphin-assisted birth. According to The Charlotte Observer, the couple was inspired to have their child amongst dolphins from the book "The Ancient Secret of the Flower of Life" by Drunvalo Melchizedek.
"Having that connection with the pod of dolphins anytime – even if the birth doesn't happen in the water – still brings peace, comfort and strength to the mother and baby during labor," says Heather.
Experts Say Dolphins Aren’t Exactly The Best Midwives
This outlandish birthing idea isn’t exactly winning the praises of experts. Christie Wilcox, of Discover magazine, believes that dolphin-assisting births are a bad idea.
“My professional opinion: this has to be, hands down, one of the worst natural birthing ideas anyone has ever had (and that is saying a lot),” Christie writes in her blog.
She also adds that dolphins shouldn’t be taken lightly, despite their friendly disposition.
“No matter how cute they might appear, dolphins are not cuddly companions; they are real, large, ocean predators with a track record for violence — even when it comes to humans.”
