During a recent performance of ‘Dirty Laundry,’ the former Destiny’s Child singer became emotional and quite literally broke down during her latest ballad. Watch the video.
Kelly Rowland took the Fillmore Silver Spring stage in Washington D.C. on May 26 to give her audience a taste of her new music, but just minutes into the ballad “Dirty Laundry,” the singer was forced to stop mid-performance when her emotions took over.
Kelly Rowland Cries On Stage — Emotional During Song About Beyonce
Kelly’s latest song, which was released on her SoundCloud page just a few weeks ago, tackles the singer’s own dirty laundry: an abusive relationship with a previous boyfriend and of course, living in the shadow of her former bandmate Beyonce. In the tune, she sings of Bey’s success, “When my sister was on stage/Killing it like a motherf***er/I was in a rage/Feeling like a motherf***er.”
“Doing this song for me was so therapeutic,” she explained to the crowd in the moments leading up to the performance, rationalizing the sometimes harsh lyrics.
Kelly Rowland Gets By With A Little Help From Her Fans
Four minutes into the emotional song, it was the lyric “Turnin’ me against my sister” that caused Rowland to sit hunched over on her stool on the stage, visibly upset, cradling her head in her hands. With the support of her fans in the audience chanting her name, Rowland was able to compose herself and finish the song and set.
I wouldn’t cry for her just yet, though. Rowland will soon be adding television to her resume, as the singer is set to appear as The X Factor‘s latest judge on the upcoming third season.
