The new Lifetime biopic ‘Anna Nicole’ premieres June 29, and in an exclusive interview with HollywoodLife.com, actor Donny Boaz opens up about his experience playing Larry Birkhead.
Donny Boaz can tell you almost anything you want to know about Larry Birkhead, the father of Anna Nicole Smith‘s daughter Dannielynn. The actor spoke to HollywoodLife.com exclusively about his experience on the set of Anna Nicole and how he had only 24 hours to prepare for the role!
Donny Boaz’s Whirlwind 24 Hours
He only had how long to prepare for his role as Larry Birkhead?! The actor auditioned via tape, and within 24 hours, he was filming Anna Nicole. Wow.
In order to get ready for the role, Donny did what anyone else would do in a tight situation: He looked to Google for answers! Though he didn’t know much about Larry to start with, he can tell you almost anything you want to know about him now that filming has wrapped:
I knew only what the media told me about Larry Birkhead prior to filming this, which wasn't a lot. I knew that he was a father and won a paternity test, but now I can tell you his birthday, his brother’s name, his sister's, his mother's, his father, that he was a photographer from Kentucky. I know more about Larry now than I thought I ever would.
The Perks Of Playing Larry Birkhead
Although Larry didn’t have a large part in Anna’s life around the time of her death, and is mostly known for his role in the paternity suit over Dannielynn, Donny believes that Larry was always a great influence in Anna’s life:
I don't think there is a way you could portray him badly in this film. … I believe he was somebody who encouraged her to live straight and to put away the pills and the alcohol. I think he was a beacon of light in life, whether she chose to see him that way or not.
He also noted that it was surreal to be surrounded on set with stars like Martin Landau and Adam Goldberg:
I'd never gotten to work with Martin Landau before, but to meet that kind of icon who you got to grow up and work with, you kind of have to pinch yourself to make sure it's all real. I also grew up seeing Adam Goldberg. I watched him on Friends when I was in high school, and then when you're looking across the room and he's sitting next to you, it's definitely an honor to be surrounded by such great talent.
The actor also had a cool Twitter encounter with his real-life alter ego! Donny told us that after booking the role, Larry tweeted him congratulations and that the two Larry’s need to meet up sometime. So cool!

Donny is going to be gracing your TV screens many times over the next few weeks. After Anna Nicole premieres June 29, he can be seen on episodes of Graceland, Drop Dead Diva and The Glades.
