So tragic. Wayne Hubert was arrested after carelessly leaving his young son in a sweltering car for hours, resulting in his death. He is being charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Nathan Hubert, 23 months, was trapped in his carseat in his family’s car on a scorching summer day, while his father, Wayne Hubert, 32, was in the house, allegedly drunk and passed out. The little boy was found two hours later by his mother, who cried while cradling his lifeless body on the front lawn of their O’Fallon, Ill. home.

Two-Year-Old Dead After Father Leaves Him In Hot Car

Wayne put little Nathan in his carseat in his dark-colored vehicle to take a drive, but instead, the father of two “consumed alcohol to a level which caused him to pass out,” according to charging documents.

Wayne was charged with involuntary manslaughter, and faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child because his four-year-old daughter was home alone when the man was passed out. He was released on $250,000 bail on June 22.

Neighbors Describe Wayne As Loving Father

Neighbors of the family have fond memories of the little boy and his parents, calling little Nathan energetic and happy, remembering him always playing and laughing. Of Wayne and his wife, neighbor Keith Richter, 63, told the Daily Mail:

They are fantastic people. From what I could observe, they always seemed to be very attentive and well-caring parents.

A History of Tragic Accidents

Unfortunately, stories like that of the Hubert family are far from uncommon. With thirteen tragic incidents of children dying in hot cars in summer 2013 alone, it seems as though parents should be spending more time cautiously parenting their children.

So sad. Our thoughts are with Nathan’s family during this difficult time.
