Following the violent accident, Mookie was airlifted to the Atlanta Medical Center, Clayton County spokesperson Clarence Cox told ESPN. Meanwhile, Jonesboro Police Chief Franklin Allen reported that 43-year-old Monica Murphy, who was a passenger in the van that Mookie struck, died from fatal injuries just before 10 PM. Her husband Frankie Murphy, who was driving the van, sustained a broken ankle and was released from the hospital after going through treatment.
Mookie was initially placed on life support but has since been taken off of it, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
As for why Mookie’s car veered across the center line, the police chief told WSB-TV that the retired basketball player has a history of seizures, and that the police are investigating whether a seizure caused the accident.
