Hollywood is still reeling from the sudden loss of ‘Sopranos’ star James Gandolfini, who died from a massive heart attack on June 19. Steve Carell told HollywoodLife.com exclusively that he’s extremely saddened because James was a ‘really, really sweet guy.’

Steve Carell is mourning the loss of his dear friend, legendary actor James Gandolfini, and his sadness was obvious on June 23, when he attended the screening of his new movie The Way, Way, Back during the closing night gala of the LA Film Festival.

The usually upbeat funnyman did his best to put on a happy face during the premiere, but wasn't quite himself. When we asked him about James – who died of a heart attack on June 19, while on vacation in Rome – Steve told HollywoodLife.com exclusively that James was a "really, really sweet guy" and “it’s a great loss.”  Steve was too emotional to share a favorite memory of the Sopranos star, but instead gave a heartfelt denial and headed inside the theatre to screen his new indie-comedy with Little Miss Sunshine co-star Toni Collete.

After the movie – written and directed by Descendants scribes Jim Rash and Nat Faxon – the cast headed upstairs to the closing night gala, but Steve tellingly chose to skip the party.

Hollywood Mourns The Loss Of James Gandolfini

Steve isn’t the only one in Hollywood still reeling over the sudden loss of the much loved mob boss. When news broke of his passing, everyone from Olivia Wilde to Rob Lowe expressed their sorrow, and the overwhelming sentiment was that not only was James an incredible actor, but he was also an incredible man.

James' body was flown home to New Jersey late Sunday night, June 23. His funeral will be held at the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine in New York City on June 27 at 10 a.m.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to James’ family and friends during this difficult time.
