Chris Kyle, a former Navy SEAL and author of the book ‘American Sniper,’ was shot and killed at a Texas gun range on Feb. 2. Read on for the shocking details.

An Erath County, TX sheriff told Texas reporters that two men were found dead from gunshot wounds at Rough Creek Lodge shooting range, about 50 miles southwest of Fort Worth, on Feb. 2.

Chris Kyle: An Author Murdered In Cold Blood

One of the shooting victims was 38-year-old Chris Kyle, author of the best-selling book American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History. The book details Kyle’s time as a Navy SEAL and vividly depicts his 150-plus kills in service from 1999 to 2009.

According to the county sheriff, Tommy Bryant, a gunman opened fire on the two men — the second man’s name is yet to be confirmed — and then fled in one of the victim’s pickup truck.

Currently details are fuzzy — both the Erath County police department and the Texas shooting range have yet to make statements, though reportedly, a 25 year-old man has been taken into custody for the crime and is expected to be charged.

Kyle’s Legal Fight With Jesse Ventura

As of now, there is no motive or explanation for the heinous murders, but Kyle certainly had his fair share of enemies.

Kyle was recently sued by former Minnesota governor, Jesse Ventura, over a part of American Sniper that depicts a barfight  between the two men. In the book, Kyle tells a story about how he punched Ventura because of unpatriotic remarks. Ventura claimed that the confrontation never happened, and that Kyle’s story defamed him.

The ex-Navy SEAL had asked for the lawsuit to be dismissed, but a federal judge rejected the request — a trial was set to begin on Aug. 1.
