The brave choir students from Sandy Hook Elementary School sang an emotional rendition of ‘America the Beautiful’ at the 2013 Super Bowl pregame show, less than two months after the tragic shooting massacre at their school that took the lives of 20 students.
Super Bowl XLVII kicked off with a touching tribute by the Sandy Hook Elementary School choir and Academy Award-winner Jennifer Hudson during the pregame show, in which they sang a heart-warming version of America the Beautiful.
Just seven weeks after crazed gunman Adam Lanza charged into their Newtown, Conn. school and gunned down 26 people (20 of which were students), some courageous survivors took the field to deliver a flawless performance of the patriotic song.
Emotions were running high as the students stood together in white collared shirts and khaki pants, complete with green ribbons to commemorate the lives that were lost during that tragic day.
Green is the Sandy Hook school color, and the ribbons were even for sale as car decals for purchase, with proceeds going to the Sandy Hook community.
After the choir started the song by themselves, they were later joined by Academy Award-winner Jennifer Husdon, and together they all gave a stunning performance.
Jennifer looked stunning in a black leather turtleneck and tight white skirt. She also donned a green ribbon pinned to her top to in honor of the school tragedy.
Such an emotional and beautiful performance, and a great way to start off Super Bowl XLVII.
