The Grammys and CBS have issued a ‘Wardrobe Advisory’ banning clothing that exposes sideboob, among other things, at the Feb. 10 telecast, as our sister site Deadline.com revealed! I think this is such an absurd and unnecessary step for the network to take. Do they know what kind of show the Grammys is?
Have the people in charge of The Grammys (airing on CBS on Feb. 10) lost their minds? As revealed by our sister site Deadline.com on Feb. 6, an e-mail from CBS Standards and Practices was sent to all presenters and performers at the upcoming telecast, advising them to “adhere to Network policy concerning wardrobe” — a policy that goes so far, it bans sideboob! Should all the ladies arrive in potato sacks, CBS?
2013 Grammy Awards Show Bans Nipples, “Puffy” Genital Skin, & More
This advisory is insane. Not only is the policy a serious overreach that unfairly targets women’s fashion, it’s written in the most strangely clinical terminology. “Please be sure that buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered. Thong type costumes are problematic. Please avoid exposing bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack. Bare sides or under curvature of the breasts is also problematic,” the e-mail reads.
But it doesn’t stop there! “Please avoid sheer see-through clothing that could possibly expose female breast nipples. Please be sure the genital region is adequately covered so that there is no visible "puffy" bare skin exposure,” it continues. I don’t even want to begin to contemplate what “visible ‘puffy’ bare skin exposure” is.
CBS’ Wardrobe Advisory Has Gone Too Far
Come on, CBS — this is ridiculous! The Grammys are supposed to be the fun, anything-goes awards show! You do realize your honorees are Rihanna and Katy Perry and not Dames Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, right?
Would you tell Lady Gaga that she can’t arrive in her egg? Would you prevent men from wearing anything provocative? Why must the fashion choices for the fabulous ladies being honored at the event be so limited? CBS, it’s time you rethink this insane wardrobe advisory.
Do you agree that the banning of sideboob at The Grammys is crazy, HollywoodLifers?
