Not every Super Bowl spot was considered a touchdown. Watch HollywoodLife.com’s picks for the night’s five most forgettable fumbles.
The biggest companies in the world dropped millions of dollars for a 30-second spot during Super Bowl XLVII on Feb. 3 — and, oh boy, did some of them totally waste their money! HollywoodLife.com already listed the eight best Super Bowl commercials of the night; so now let’s turn our attention to the evening’s biggest stinkers.
GoDaddy.com: ‘Bar Refaeli’s Big Kiss!’
You may have noticed this ad appeared on both our best and worst lists, so allow me to explain: While I enjoyed the commercial’s gross appeal, most people apparently just found it gross. And not at all appealing. It turns out people have a hard time downing their favorite Super Bowl snacks while watching Bar Refaeli suck face with a chubby ghost.
GoDaddy.com: ‘Get Off Your Duff!’
Just as Dorito’s appeared twice on our list of best commercials, so too does GoDaddy.com appear twice — on our worst list. Maybe it was the cliché “men are dumb, women are annoying” undertone, or maybe I just don’t understand why Danica Patrick keeps happening, but this commercial was just really terrible. And it tried so hard.
Coca-Cola: ‘Coke Chase’
The only thing more hyped than Beyoncé‘s halftime performance was this year’s Coca-Cola commercial — and what a let-down it turned out to be. Who really cares which random, nameless character won the “Coke chase?”
Samsung Mobile USA: ‘The Next Big Thing’
Maybe I’ve been spoiled by their movies, which are actually funny, but I expected more from a commercial co-starring Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen. It wasn’t as much of an abortion as some of the other ads on this list, but it felt awkward and clunky. Jonathan Cohen’s tweet sums it up perfectly: “Did Judd Apatow direct the Paul Rudd and @Sethrogen #samsung commercial? Because it was an hour too long.”
Volkswagen: ‘Get In. Get Happy.’
This year’s Volkswagen ad got a lot of attention, even before airing Feb. 3, for its arguably offensive concept: a bunch of white idiots pretending to have Jamaican accents. Offensive or not, this commercial just wasn’t funny.
