In honor of Mother’s Day, HollywoodLife.com is paying tribute to all the TV moms we love… to hate!
Mother’s Day Weekend is supposed to be a time of reflection all the wonderful qualities of the moms in our lives — but here at HollywoodLife.com, we’re doing things a little differently. We’re choosing to celebrate the mom-sters living inside our DVRs, the TV moms we watch in fear every week. And trust us, it was hard to narrow this list down to just 11!
Let’s start with the mom-sters currently having a very big weekend, shall we? May 12 marks the season finale of ABC’s Once Upon A Time, which wouldn’t be half as magical without the sinister shenanigans of Regina (Lana Parrilla), the Evil Queen and evil mom of poor little Henry. Following that episode, upper-class villainess Victoria Grayson (Madeleine Stowe) will perform her final act of motherly evil on the season finale of Revenge. And we hope your DVRs are ready for a workout, because May 12 also brings us a new episode of Game of Thrones, which will certainly find evil-mom Cersei (Lena Headey) up to her usual tricks.
We’re big fans of scripted dramas here at HL, and what would a scripted drama be without a deliciously evil mom to scheme in the shadows? The Lying Game‘s Rebecca Sewell (Charisma Carpenter), Sons of Anarchy‘s Gemma Teller Morrow (Katey Sagal) and Mad Men‘s Betty Draper (January Jones) prove you can be an evil sexy mom in any generation!
Sometimes, though, wicked moms can also be… well, wicked funny! Take Lois Griffin, for example: The matriarch of Fox’s Family Guy leaves us in stitches every week, even when she’s belittling her daughter, or taking aim at Kristen Stewart. And don’t get us started on Arrested Development; we’re counting down the days until the new episodes are released on Netlflix, mostly because we can’t get enough of mom-ster Lucille Bluth (Jessica Walter). Oh, and how could we forget Jane Lynch as Sue Sylvester on Glee? Let’s just say, there’s a reason we don’t see the former Cheerio captain with her new baby in too many scenes.
And then there are the really sad cases: the bad reality TV moms! These are the saddest of all because, unfortunately, their bad parenting is unscripted and totally legitimate. We’re talking, of course, about Teen Mom star Amber Portwood and Teen Mom 2 star Jenelle Evans, both of whom have been arrested several times. Currently, Amber is serving a five-year sentence in jail, while Jenelle was recently arrested for heroin possession and assault.
