In a bizarre twist, it has now been revealed that Ariel Castro’s own daughter is in an Indiana prison after attempting to murder her baby. Read on for all the disturbing details.
Ariel Castro‘s daughter Emily Castro is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence for attempted murder after she slashed her daughter’s neck with a knife in 2007. Was she a victim of her father’s abuse?
Emily was 19 years old when she tried to kill her 11-month-old daughter with a knife, according to CNN. She also tried to kill herself by cutting her wrists and throat. Apparently, she was upset that her boyfriend at the time had moved out of their home in Fort Wayne.
Emily Diagnosed With Bipolar Disorder
Emily was diagnosed with manic depression when she was 13 years old, the The Journal Gazette reported. Her brother Anthony Castro told the judge that “The family had dealt with his sister’s illness every day.” He begged the judge for leniency, but an appeal in 2008 was denied. The judge argued that even though Emily was mentally ill, she knew “right from wrong”.
Emily claims that she is a good mother and can’t believe what happened.
“I don’t know how this happened…I want you to know I am a very good mom.”
Her daughter Janyla has fully recovered from the stabbings.
Did Ariel Castro Sexually Abuse His Own Children?
According to USA Today, Ariel Castro threatened to kill ex-wife Grimilda Figueroa and their two daughters. Ariel broke her nose twice, dislocated her shoulder, knocked out a tooth and broke her ribs. The case was dropped because her lawyer failed to attend a court hearing.
Grimilda died in 2012 of a brain tumor—which was inoperable due to a brain clot caused by Ariel’s ongoing beatings.
What do YOU think HollywoodLifers, should Emily be serving time in jail or is she herself a victim of sexual and physical abuse? Was she suffering from postpartum depression? So sad!
