On May 30, 13-year-old Arvind Mahankali became the first New York teenager in 16 years to win the Scripps National Spelling Bee when he correctly spelled “knaidel.” Good for you Arvind! When he won, Arvind did his signature gesture, and you will never guess what it is!

1) Arvind Mahankali came in third place before – Arvind placed third in both 2011 and 2012 in the same competition, because he always fell at the last hurdle with the German words. But not this time!
"The German curse has turned into a German blessing," he said to The Globe & Mail. "I had begun to be a little wary of German words, but this year I prepared German words and I studied them, so when I got German words this year, I wasn't worried."
2) Arvind admires Albert Einstein – Arvind has dreams of becoming a physicist, just like Einstein! He plans to spend more time studying physics this summer now that he is "retired" from spelling bees.
3) Arvind’s relatives in India watched him on TV – Arvind's relatives come from Hyderabad in southern India, and they did not miss out on seeing their nephew become a champion!
4) His signature move – He cracks his knuckles! When Arvind won, he cracked his knuckles, which is his signature gesture during his bee appearances.
5) Arvind Mahankali won the Scripps National Spelling Bee AND $30,000 – That’s one nice prize!
