On May 15, a jury found that Jodi was ‘exceptionally cruel’ when she brutally murdered her boyfriend, making her eligible to receive the death penalty.

On May 8, Jodi Arias was found guilty for the murder of her boyfriend Travis Alexander. Travis’ body was found in the shower of his Mesa, Ariz. home after he was brutally murdered in June 2008. Jodi admitted to stabbing him 27 times in the back and torso, shooting him in the head, and slitting his throat from ear-to-ear.

On May 15, Jodi appeared in front of a jury again, and they determined her crime was “exceptionally cruel.” The jury’s verdict makes Jodi eligible for the death penalty in the next phase of her trial. As she learned the ruling, Jodi began sobbing in the courtroom.

After the announcement was made, the courtroom fell silent for two minutes. Prosecutor Juan Martinez pointed out that was how long Travis suffered when Jodi murdered him.

“He was stabbed in the heart, chased down and then he had his throat slit,” he said. “Those approximately two minutes that we talked about must have seemed like two lifetimes.”

Twenty minutes after the jury found Jodi guilty of first degree murder, she gave an interview with Phoeniz, Arizona’s FOX affiliate where she revealed she wants the death penalty.

“The worst outcome for me would be natural life,” Jodi revealed to FOX. “I said years ago that I'd rather get death than life, and that still is true today.”

Jodi added, “I believe death is the ultimate freedom, so I'd rather just have my freedom as soon as I can get it.”
