Tweeting frequently, the wing walker was extremely enthusiastic for her stunt performance at the Vectren Air Show on June 22. Little did she know it would be her last.
Jane Wicker, 44, and her pilot, Charlie Schwenker, 64, died in a tragic biplane accident during Jane’s wing walking exhibition at the Vectren Air Show near Dayton, Ohio on June 22. The violent crash and subsequent fiery explosion took their lives while the crowd watched in horror. The only thing that could make the accident more devastating, is the pure excitement Jane had going into the performance, which she expressed on her Twitter.
Jane Wicker Dies In Air Show Accident: Her Last Tweets
Jane, who has been performing wing walking stunts for over 10 years, was clearly excited to put on a show in Dayton. You can feel her enthusiasm and joy just by reading her Twitter feed.
“Ahhhh!!! Felt good to get back on the wing. Did the hang with no problem. All set for Dayton!” she tweeted on June 16.
As the event got closer, Jane’s excitement grew: “In Dayton ready to rock this town. Had a great drive. Must get to bed if I want to be fresh for those 6:40am and 7:10 am interviews.”
And worse, on June 17, the mother of two joked about the Dayton performance: “See you there,” she responded to a friend. “Might need to use your protective services in Dayton. ;). JK. It will be a blast!” How awful.
Jane and her pilot, Charlie’s sudden deaths are just terrible and so shocking. These excited tweets leading up to her death obviously carry a grim undertone, knowing what we know now. But they do emphasize one thing — that she died doing what she loved.
Our thoughts are with Jane and Charlie’s friends and families during this difficult time.
