Plus, bad news from Bill: Are all vampires destined for the true death?

The June 23 episode of True Blood began with Warlow entering Bon Temps through some kind of crazy portal, but by the end of the hour, that was the last thing on viewers’ minds. Let’s just say Bill (Stephen Moyer) was given a sneak peek at the future of all vampires — courtesy of his divine new powers — and it’s basically the end of their world as we know it.

After a mind-f**k of a trance, in which Lillith helped Bill come to terms with his new abilities, the Southern gentle-vamp was plagued by a nightmare-ish vision: Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) and the rest of the town’s fanged favorites were being burnt alive at what appeared to be a vampire concentration camp!

Of course, things in the present aren’t looking too good, either. Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) ordered some trick to come feed Bill, and things escalated quickly: broken bones, blood draining — and he didn’t even have to lay a fang on her.

(WILD THEORY ALERT: Does anyone else think Bill might be the main character who dies this season? Though “Billith” started out as a God figure, his horrifying vision of the future will surely force him to save everyone, potentially turning him into more of a Jesus figure. And we all know how that ended.)

Eric Goes Undercover — And Under Covers

Meanwhile, Eric took matters into his own hands — what else is new? — by disguising himself and meeting with the Governor of Louisiana. He was disappointed to discover the governor is immune to his glamouring, just as the governor’s guards were disappointed to discover that vampires can fly. (I believe, “Oh shit, they can fly?” was their exact response.)

But it seems Eric had a Plan B up his sleeve, as the episode ended with the Nordic vamp floating in the bedroom of none other than the governor’s daughter, Willa (Amelia Rose Blaire). Why do I get the feeling he’s not interested in taking her to the box social?

Sookie’s New Man?

The season premiere gave fans so much for hope for a reunion between Eric and Sookie (Anna Paquin), but this week’s episode basically crushed us all by introducing yet another man into the mix: Ben (Rob Kazinsky), a half-fairy Sookie rescued on the side of the road. It felt very much like her encounter with an injured Bill in season one, which did make me a little happy. I’m glad the show is returning to its roots, even if that means we’ll have to keep waiting for Sookie and Eric to get back together.

The War Against Warlow

When Sookie wasn’t busy getting her flirt on with Ben, she was training under the watchful eye of Niall, Jason’s (Ryan Kwanten) fairy Godfather, who also happens to be Sookie’s grandfather and the king of all fairies. That’s right, just when you thought Sookie had gotten her last big surprise, she learned she’s also a freaking princess.

She also learned that she can channel all of her magic into one energy ball, which she can use to defeat Warlow — but she can only use it once, so don’t expect her to go all trigger happy.

Odds & Ends

** Once again, I’m loving every minute of Andy’s sudden fatherhood. The little girls are hilarious, not to mention adorable, and something tells me their storyline will only become better with age. (Which shouldn’t take very long.)

** Is Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) going to actually do anything this season? Not that I’m not enjoying his ongoing game of dress-up with Emma, but it just seems like a waste.

** As a massive hater of last season’s smoke-monster ordeal, I did not enjoy seeing Patrick’s wife turn up at Merlotte’s this week. Can we finally let that awful storyline rest in peace?
