He did it! We were on the edge of our seats watching the daredevil stuntman 1,500 feet above the ground, and after a tense 23 minutes, Nik made it to the other side!

Nik Wallenda may have just become the greatest daredevil in history. On June 23, the Flying Wallendas family member bravely navigated a razor-thin tightrope walk a quarter-mile across the Little Colorado River Gorge near the Grand Canyon. He is now the first person to ever complete the high-flying act. And oh yeah, did we mention he wasn’t even wearing a harness!?

Nik Wallenda Tightropes Across The Grand Canyon

Though everyone watching closely was likely sweating bullets and chewing on their fingernails, Nik himself may have been the calmest person of all. He very carefully put one foot in front of the other, barely resembling a man who was standing on a two-inch-thick steel cable 1,500 feet above the ground (for a comparison, the Empire State Building is 1,454 feet tall).

Ten minutes through the walk, Nik maintained his composure, even as he begged and begged God to slow down the wind and calm the cable. As time went on, our nerves only intensified. And even though Nik appeared focused, he had to have felt the pressure of being in that situation for that long.

As the gusts continued to blow, Nik continued to move forward. And slowly but surely, inch by inch, Nik managed to make it across the nearly 1,400-foot gap! He actually RAN to finish line!

Phew! Let us take a deep breath. That was probably the craziest, tensest thing we’ve ever watched.

Nik Wallenda: I Fear Nothing

“I would say the only thing I fear is God,” Nik told CBS News before the stunt.

That brave and undisturbed attitude clearly helped him tackle his biggest stunt yet, though death had to have been in the corner of his mind. In 1978, his great-grandfather Karl Wallenda, also an acrobat, fell to his death attempting to walk between the two towers of the Condado Plaza Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico at the age of 73.

Thankfully, Nik did not suffer the same fate! His daredevil tightrope act across the Grand Canyon was truly breathtaking, and even though he had us scared to death, we’re glad we got to witness it. What about you, HollywoodLifers?
