Say what?! The veteran actor admitted in an interview that he was wrong to think his throat cancer was caused by years of smoking and drinking — because it was actually caused by something much racier! Read on.

Not sure we needed to know, Michael Douglas. In a new interview, the 68-year-old actor revealed the true culprit of his throat cancer, which he battled for six months between August 2010 and January 2011. It’s definitely not what you would expect.

Michael Douglas: The Real Cause Of His Cancer

Michael’s cancer was actually caused by HPV, or human papilloma virus, a sexually transmitted disease, the actor revealed in an interview with The Guardian.

When a reporter asked if Michael regretted smoking and drinking for years because it may have caused his illness, Michael responded frankly: “No. Because without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV, which actually comes about from cunnilingus.”

Give us a second — we need to wrap our minds around this. Okay, let’s move on.

Michael Douglas’ Throat Cancer Caused By Oral Sex

Michael continued saying that he had also suspected that the stress from his son Cameron’s imprisonment, which happened only a few months before the health troubles arose, was to blame for the walnut-sized tumor that blossomed in his throat. But no, it was definitely oral sex.

“I did worry if the stress caused by my son’s incarceration didn’t help trigger it. But yeah, it’s a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer,” Michael reiterated. He also frankly revealed one of the best treatments for his disease: “If you have it, cunnilingus is also the best cure for it.” We’re not totally sure that’s a medical fact, maybe just a thing Michael Douglas tells his wife Catherina Zeta-Jones.

All joking aside, Michael is optimistic that he is out of the woods after undergoing intense radiation and chemotherapy treatment and being given the all-clear in January 2011. “With this kind of cancer, 95 percent of the time it doesn’t come back,” he said while also stating that he still goes for checkups every six months to be sure.

All we know is, no matter how Michael got the disease, we’re glad he beat it! What do you think of all this, HollywoodLifers? Let us know!
