Nik won’t stop until he goes down as the greatest death-defying stuntman in history! Almost exactly a year since he became the first man to tightrope across the Niagara Falls, he’s taking his fearless, acrobatic talents to the Grand Canyon. It’ll be his most dangerous stunt ever!

Don’t ask why, but on June 23, Nik Wallenda, 34, will walk on a tightrope stretched across the Little Colorado River Gorge near the Grand Canyon. The third of a mile, razor-thin rope will be suspended 1,500 feet (for reference, that’s about 50 feet higher than the Empire State Building) above the river. Nik will not be wearing a parachute or a harness — and there definitely won’t be a safety net. The best part about all of this? You can watch every second of the high-flying drama on TV.

Nik Wallenda’s Grand Canyon Tightrope Act

Nik’s daredevil act will be broadcast live (well, on a 10-second delay in case something horrible happens) at 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 23, on Discovery. Without any harnesses or any safety precautions of any sort, Nik will literally be putting his life on the line on a Navajo reservation, just outside of the Grand Canyon National Park, all in the name of glory.

It is his most ambitious (read: dangerous) attempt to date, though Nik has certainly had as much practice as anyone could possibly have in this line of work. His previous feats include riding a bike on a high wire 260 feet above the ground and hanging from a helicopter using only his teeth to hold on. And on June 15, 2012, Nik became the first man ever to walk on a tightrope across the Niagara Falls. That walk — 200 feat above the roaring falls — was definitely extreme, but the edge was slightly taken off by the fact that he had a harness on.

There will be no harness for this even higher, wilder tightrope walk.

Nik Wallenda: I’m Not Afraid

“I would say the only thing I fear is God,” Nik told CBS News.

Nik says that walking across the Grand Canyon has always been a dream of his. How funny — his dreams are our nightmares! We can’t even imagine doing what Nik does, but we are definitely excited to watch.
