How terrible. On July 27, a gunman tragically killed six people during a shootout with Hialeah, Fla. police before being gunned down himself. Read on.

A shootout between a man and SWAT team members from Hialeah, Fla., a suburb outside of Miami, that began on July 26 and lasted into the morning hours of July 27 has left seven people dead, including the shooter.

7 Killed — Including The Gunman — In Florida Shooting

Hialeah police received a call at 6:30 p.m. on July 26 alerting them about a shooting, according to CNN. When they arrived on the scene, to an apartment building that houses 90 families, the police found two people dead from gunshot wounds and heard more shots being fired nearby.

The suspect barricaded himself in one of the apartments, holding a man and a woman hostage, according to police spokesman Sgt. Eddie Rodriguez.

The Hialeah SWAT team first attempted to negotiate with the shooter, but after talks lasting nearly eight hours broke down, they forced their way into the apartment, rescuing the two hostages and killing the suspect, who reportedly opened fire on them, in the process.

After taking control of the situation, police went through the apartment building, finding four more bodies. Altogether three men and three women were killed.

Florida Shooting: Landlords Killed In Hostage Standoff

The deadly standoff took the lives of the landlords of the building, according to the Miami Herald. Italo Pisciotti, 78, and his wife, Samira Pisciotti, 68, were shot 15 to 20 times in their fourth floor apartment in the building they managed, which is located near 46th Street and West 16th Avenue in Hialeah.

The couple’s daughter, Shamira Pisciotti was on the scene when chaos broke out, and says she heard multiple gunshots and then saw people fleeing their apartments. “I saw my mother’s dead body,” Shamira told the Miami Herald. “She died the moment she was shot, but it looks like my dad was still alive after he was shot.”

The identity of the shooter has not yet been revealed, but Shamira believes he may have been a disgruntled tenant — Italo and Samira had gone to see one who had filed a complaint just before the shooting. “It seems like he was the one who shot my mom and my dad,” she said.

This is just an awful tragedy. We can’t imagine the state of grieving the Hialeah community must be in right now. Our hearts go out to everyone involved in this horrible incident, especially the friends and families and the people who died.
